Clueless County Commissioner

Vieques was used for Navy gunfire support. You don't see the Navy doing that much anymore. The military exercises mentioned in this report have been a part of Keys history ever since the Navy has been here. Thousands of mines were strewn around here in WWI and WWII. Navy ships did shock trials in these waters long before environmental laws. Several Navy ships were sunk in explosive tests and became underwater reefs and inspired the concept of sinking ships as underwater reefs. Go study your history.

Ever notice when any Goverment enity plans a public

meeting it is scheduled for the time that the least amount of people will attend ? Meeting scheduled for first week of August; after all you wouldn't want all those pesky lobster trappers and fishermen to attend. Hopefully when they blow the C-4 the lobsters and fish will float up to the surface and we can scoop them up. Will the FKNMS will start having its meeting during Fantasy fest next ? .................... during WWII the Navt put out 500 underwater mines , only blowing up our own ships, the Luckenbach and the Stuernevent, the Luckenbach had almost the all the tungston steel in the world on board, including ampules of morphine and ammonium ore, After the war fewer than 250 mines were recovered, the rest are "missing" and still come to the surface and float once the chains rust through. 2 years ago one floated through Key West harbour and was recovered in front of Ft. Zachery Taylor. Alexanders wreck was a tow that sank enroute to the salvage yard and was blown apart since it was a hazard to navigation. The idea that these vessels were scuttled by the Navy is completely inaccurate and were not the start of the artifical reef program, Go to local library and get the facts before printing some absurd theory. Or better yet go talk to Mr. Spencer at the boatyard, he was a hard hat diver right after the war who worked on the salvage vessels, or Alexander another Navy diver from back in the day.

Look on the bright side.

Look on the bright side. Maybe some of this live ordinance will take out a few of the Jet Ski tours, or a Duck or two. I sure am glad I own lots of stock in defense contractors. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
