Stella Rylander stood on her Duval Street property Friday pointing to chickens that were flying up over her new, white-washed fence.
"They come and come and I try to remove them," the 74-year-old woman said. "What else can I do?" Rylander and her son, Jay, are crying foul, or "fowl," after city code compliance officers cited her for keeping fowl or wildlife in April.
The city should investigate Ms. Sheehan for her scams.
This old nut case has been feeding chickens, roosters and cats for years. Just look at the photo-- bulk cat and chicken feed piled high in her side yard. Now she claims she's been trying to get rid of them.
I'm certainly sorry she's not well physically, but that's no excuse. And there's nothing physically wrong with her son. Fact is, the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. Why does he have chicken coops? Is he collecting eggs?
These people need to be ordered (and fined if necessary) to stop feeding feral cats and gypsy chickens. Period.
More importantly, our city commissioners need to finally wake up to the fact that our city is sorely overpopulated with filthy fowl. There needs to be a city-wide roundup of all loose chickens and roosters. They carry all sort of disease and tear up landscaping all over town.
Unsanitary, noisy chickens and roosters are not cute or quaint-- they're a health hazard. Sooner or later the city is going to be sued for failing to protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens. Then maybe the commissioners will wake up-- it'll only take the crow of a rooster and an attorney.
