Code officers get involved in chicken case

Stella Rylander stood on her Duval Street property Friday pointing to chickens that were flying up over her new, white-washed fence.

"They come and come and I try to remove them," the 74-year-old woman said. "What else can I do?" Rylander and her son, Jay, are crying foul, or "fowl," after city code compliance officers cited her for keeping fowl or wildlife in April.

Drunk chicken

I have chickens all around my yard. I like them. Not once have I been accosted for money by a drunk chicken.

The city also needs to round up all the iguanas too!

They are known to carry salmonella which can be very dangerous to infants and the elderly. They poop all over the pool decks. They can grow to the size of a large dog and pose a danger to vehicles if you were to hit one crossing a road.

A shovel works well to get

A shovel works well to get rid of them. Aim for the head. Works every time.

Large Dogs?

Iguanas the size of large dogs? Pose danger to vehicles? I don't know what the hell kind of iguanas you are describing. Are Komodo lizards here now?

Several huge ones at FKCC

They are the size of John deer ride em lawn mowers. They are so big they have no fear of humans and won't budge an inch if you get close.

I suggest you call the city, then.

I suggest you call the city, then. No one here has the authority to do that.

This woman has been scammed by Sheehan

Ms. Sheehan will indeed bring a cage (if she's still doing this), and will collect chickens. But then she's been caught in the act bring the same chickens BACK at night.

The city should investigate Ms. Sheehan for her scams.

Does she have a business license?

Does she have a business license? I can't find a record of her having an active license to sell her services as a 'chicken catcher'. If she's still doing it, then it's time for the City and County to go after her for not paying her taxes and working without a license. I would suggest that anyone who has paid Ms. Sheehan for this service contact the county tax office and the city licensing office immediately, and show them receipts so they can go after Ms. Sheehan.

Chicken feathers!

This old nut case has been feeding chickens, roosters and cats for years. Just look at the photo-- bulk cat and chicken feed piled high in her side yard. Now she claims she's been trying to get rid of them.

I'm certainly sorry she's not well physically, but that's no excuse. And there's nothing physically wrong with her son. Fact is, the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. Why does he have chicken coops? Is he collecting eggs?

These people need to be ordered (and fined if necessary) to stop feeding feral cats and gypsy chickens. Period.

More importantly, our city commissioners need to finally wake up to the fact that our city is sorely overpopulated with filthy fowl. There needs to be a city-wide roundup of all loose chickens and roosters. They carry all sort of disease and tear up landscaping all over town.

Unsanitary, noisy chickens and roosters are not cute or quaint-- they're a health hazard. Sooner or later the city is going to be sued for failing to protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens. Then maybe the commissioners will wake up-- it'll only take the crow of a rooster and an attorney.
