20 YEARS AGO

The founder of Reef Relief, Craig Quirolo, announced that he was resigning as executive director after seven years.

The Monroe County Planning Commission voted 3 to 2 to back the county's planning department and denythe construction of a school site on Big Pine Key.

50 YEARS AGO

The Army Corps of Engineers approved an $820,000 project to deepen Key West Bight and install a granite seawall to protect the shrimp fleet during bad weather.

The four reserve destroyers sent by the president to Key West the prior year were ordered to return to their former homeports in August.

National Air Lines announced new service to Miami by four-engine coach service. The price was $10 with "excellent" connections to all major cities.

100 YEARS AGO

A partial quarantine had been declared for traffic from Havana because of a bubonic plague outbreak in the city. The steamer Olivetti arrived from the city with no passengers or freight.
