From Broadway to Fringe

Key West Fringe theater will hold auditions for two shows Sunday at the Moose Lodge, 700 Eisenhower Drive.

Auditions for "Seminar" will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Needed are two men and two women in their 20s to early 30s. If possible, call 954-829-9587 for a time slot.

Auditions for "Boston Marriage" will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Three women are needed for that play; one in their 40s to 50s; another in their 30s to 40s; and one from 20 to 30. Aspirants will read from sides available by calling 305-293-9823.

Meeting about road project

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a public meeting about a drainage improvement project on U.S. 1 that will cover Caribbean Drive to Horace Street, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Big Pine Key library, 213 Key Deer Blvd.

It will be an "open house" format during which residents may arrive at anytime to see displays of the project and ask questions of FDOT staff. The proposed $1 million project, to begin January 2014 and last six months, includes putting in new drainage systems, repaving, and adding bike lanes. MARATHON

Hurricane prep for boats

"Hurricane Preparation for Boaters," a free seminar, will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Marathon City Marina, 800 35th St.

Senior meteorologist Chip Kasper of the National Weather Service in Key West and Florida Keys author and nurse Capt. Marti Brown will make presentations. Topics will include: understanding vulnerabilities; finding official hurricane forecast information; learning the SLOSH model for predicting storm surge, marina and mooring field rules, what to bring in case of an evacuation, Keys shelters and resources and more.
