ROBERTS JR.
Joseph Berlin Roberts Jr. was born Oct. 21, 1932, to Elise and Joseph Roberts and passed peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 9, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Ladd) Roberts. Joe served his country with the Army.
Earlier in life, Joe was married to Georgina Ane' and they had two children: Eddie Roberts and Vivian Nieves. His stepdaughter is Karen Delaney.
Joe's grandchildren are Ashley, Eddie, Matthew, Jose, Mario and Erica. Also, Taylor and Caleb. His great-grandchildren are Ava, Pilar, Lily, Lincoln, Berlin and Mason, who knew him as "Papa Joe" or "Joe MiMi."
Joe could be seen many years at the Little League baseball fields, coaching his son, Eddie, and nephews Harry Allen and the late Alvin Frazier III on his Neisners Championship Team and a strong supporter of nephew Larry May, a standout basketball player at Key West High School. He also spent many years behind home plate at "umpire."
Joe came from a large Key West family. His remaining siblings include Shirley (William) Tabb, Joyce Frazier, Sandra (Gaylord) Harvey, Nancy McSpadden, Linda Wick and Betty (Terrance) Beeman. His siblings who preceded him in death were Lillian Vest, William Roberts, Margaret Locks, Virginia Morey and Josephine Jenkins.
Joe is and will be missed by many, including nieces, nephews, Pastor Robinson and the congregation of Big Coppitt First Baptist Church, where Joe became an icon on Sunday mornings. The family would also like to thank extended family Natalie, Rebecca, Alicia and Julian Aguilar for their love and support and also the many friends who came to see him and became a part of Joe's family and life.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
