Kinneer: Pay up or I quit
School CFO says district owes him $5,900

A top School District administrator said he will resign Aug. 1 unless he is paid $5,900 for mandated furlough days and for helping negotiate terms with the teachers union.

Michael Kinneer, chief financial officer since late 2009, contends that his contract prohibits his paychecks from being shorted, which they were, along with other School District employees' paychecks, for...

Question

Kinneer has mistreated the employees so do u honestly think I care that he's lost 5,000 dollars. Look at all the people who have lost their jobs because some idiot decided it was a good idea to outsource everything. Which by the way is costing us tax payers more money. They hire these companies that may or may not hire existing employees for less money and these people they hire don't clean don't work and continuously break things that cost a lot of money to repair. What I want to know is who's pocket is getting lined with money in admin and board members to hire these companies. Or is it a friends company u hire for a deal to line your pockets with money. Nothing in life is free. What else I don't understand is why is it that every single time they cry poor mouth they go and fire and outsource things when Admin is the most top heavy with people making over 100,000 dollars? For what? To sit there and treat hard working staff like crap and do absolutely nothing all year long. Why don't you outsource admin or cut their salaries they can afford it! So now what's this new guy going to do? I hope he sees what's going on because evidently Jara did nothing but let them run the show.

Kinneer

Are you still here?

What a joke! Get rid of Kinneer AND Gentile.

We have no need for liars and ingrates.

For the record, Mr.

For the record, Mr. Kinneer's furlough deduction amounted to about 2.7% of his annual salary. For a classroom teacher earning $60,000 annually, the furlough deduction amounted to about 4% of her/his annual salary. This is due the shortsighted and selfish actions of the former superintendent and Board. They failed, and continue to fail, to recognize, that 7 days deducted from the pay of 10-month (most instructional) staff is grossly disproportionate in impact as compared to 11- or 12-month (most administrative and executive) staff. Hopefully, Mr. Porter will rectify this insult as he empties the building on Trumbo of the bloated, top-heavy, overpaid executive team comprised of Ms. (NOT Dr.) Axford, Mr. Gentile, Mr. Kenneer, and Ms. Allen.

Sugarloaf and Mary Immaculate

Mrs.Axford was my principal at Mary Immaculate and did an outstanding job. She cared about each of us as her own children. She was doing a great job as Sugarloaf's principal and then was pulled into this disaster. She is a school principal, teacher and quality person. Please stop linking her into others trials and tribulations. Before long she will leave and head North and we will be in deep trouble. Please stop and give her a break.

You are right she may have

You are right she may have been a great principle, at the lower grades. How she ever qualified for the high school job is beyond me. Then to create a position for her, remove her from the students, and over pay her was Burke and Jara buying off conchs with bloated salaries. Sorry but she is part of the administration problem in this town. Let he go up North where she will learn that you can't just be a paper pusher to be an educator. (When I say North I mean above the Mason-Dixon.)

HAHA

You dont have to like his Salary.. but if it was your money and they shorted you, I am sure you would be doing the same thing.. amazing how many haters there are in Key West.. Its not about what his Salary is, its about paying whats due under contract.. real simple actually. Like i said you dont have to like him or his monetary intake..but you do have to stand by contractual agreements.. Duh

So we owe all the teachers

So we owe all the teachers as well, since the furlough days violate their contract as well.

Public record

From: Michael Kinneer Sent: Monday, July 23, 2012 4:05 PM To: Jesus Jara Subject: Dr. Jara On December 15, 2009 I entered in a contract with the Monroe County School Board agreeing therein to be the Chief Financial Officer for the District. I commenced performing the duties of the CFO on December 16, 2009. In return, the Monroe County School Board agreed to pay to me as compensation a salary of $126,639.00. In addition I was to be a member of the District collective bargaining team and entitled to a supplement in the amount of $2,500.00. During Fiscal Year 2012 which ended on June 20, 2012, the Monroe County School Board deducted seven days of pay from my pay and has not paid me for the time that I served on the District collective bargaining team. The amount owed to me pursuant to the terms and conditions of our contract is $5,990.14. Accordingly, I am providing notice to you that the Monroe County School District is in default of it obligation pursuant to our contract and I consider the District to be in breach of same. As such, I have no obligation to continue providing services to the District. However, in the event that this has been an oversight on the part of the District, I am allowing the District until July 31, 2012 to cure its default by restoring the $5,990.14 to me. If this is not done I will cease providing my services to the District effective August 1, 2012. Sincerely yours, Michael Kinneer COO

To: Michael Kinneer

Subject: While I understand your plight, I must say I'll bet it sure feels funny when you are being treated like all those you have treated in the past.

Fussel Syndrome

Kinneer's salary is 126k per year and yet he is grousing over 5k that he does not deserve. Perhaps he suffers from Fussel Syndrome, the symptoms of which are greed, an inflated sense of self worth, and falling on one's sword.

Holy Jesus

Incredible

Que Pena!

Wow, so let's see if I understand correctly...Kinneer whose job it is as CFO to oversee contracts, missed a $500,000 oversight on teacher negotiations under Dr. Burke, is now threatening to quit if he is not paid the $5,000 owed to him. Right? Well, you can thank your School Board for that one. Back when the oopps happened, Kinneer should have been deemed incompetent and let go.

BYE!!!

N/P GTFO! If you think - (Kineer) you are better than or deserve more than the soldiers in the fields (teachers) as an administrator, Leave the Keys when you go!! Take Gentile and Axeford with you and let the new Superintendent hire ONE good person.

Wait....

Gentile still there? Yeah, let's put our money in the hands of the faux CPA.. REALLY?!? Dick?

Dick has lost it!

Only in Monroe county would we put a person like John Dick in charge of the largest taxing body! Dick doesn't even have a BA much less common sense! He has become exactly what he USE TO rail against- case in point, Gentile- seriously, the liar who falsified his credential and "finds" millions.....no one should stand for this!

Then Quit...

...and pay his $5900 on August 2nd. This arrogant business attitude completely ignores the business of education. Selfish jerk, good bye.

You need a qualified CFO - that ain't Axford. Dumb thought Dick.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

This is a stellar example of the kind of administrators sinking our district. It’s obvious that Mr. Kinneer has never heard of leading by example. He’s throwing a hissy fit about $5,900 when he makes $126,000 a year and our teachers are out there working the asses off for much less. Most of us have to work two jobs just to survive. If the district is in such a financial crisis that they can’t honor the teacher’s contract then they shouldn’t be obliged to honor the administrator’s contract either. Fair is Fair, if you don’t like it Mr. Kinneer then there’s the door!

Hey

Bye! Tell me again why the district is keeping Gentile after he lied on his resume and application?!?!? If that were any other employee and not administration they would be fired, whats taking you people so long! Were all watching and come election time you will see how much!

big whoop

So he should quit already; his contract is up in December.

The door and his behind

Mr. Kinner, don't let he door hit your behind on the way out. In today's business climate you are LUCKY to have a job.

Everyone had to tighten

Everyone had to tighten their belts. Maybe we should counter sue for fraud, since he misrepresented himself as a CPA. Let him resign, we want to fire him anyways. What a jerk? Cares more for his own pocket than the school, this is the type of people we keep hiring. He would have the students not have books so he can take another vacation, or print another false resume.

Perfect

Don't let the door hit (you) on the way out.

Two words come to Mind: good

Two words come to Mind: good riddance!

Missing

You are missing part of the headline. "Pay Up or I will quit and then SUE". Don't forget Dr. Kinneer is an attorney. He knows how easy it is to sue the district and win. Andy's comments pushed him over the edge as he was trying to be a team player by accepting the furlough days. I am sure, long ago, he realized the days were missing from his check, but now he is reacting how anyone else would react in his situation. Others will follow. Also, John Dick's comment about Dr. Axford and Mr. Gentile taking over Dr. Kinneer's position and not replacing him shows his lack of knowledge and respect. Dr. Kinneer should take it as a slap in the face for the amount of work he performs. Furthermore, it makes it look as if Dr. Axford and Mr. Gentile just sit around the office and do nothing. Surely, both can take on this job with tremendous responsibility at the flick of a switch. John Dick is out of touch with reality.

Please, please quit !

You are no leader. A leader 'leads' by example. Shut up, already. And, please, please, quit. This may be a surprise to you, but you are no better than our teachers.

let him quit

His salary of $126,000 is plenty of money to do anything the district needs him to do and that includes negotiating with the union. Was this miracle man at the same time doing another job. NO! He's another greedy SOB working for the county..can him

Michael

Quit!

A Very Cheap Severance Package

What a great negotiator... his ultimatum sounds too good to be true. Looks like the schools can save four and a half months of pay (August - Dec. 15)if they refuse his demand. Let the jerk walk, then give him the $5900 after the door hits him in the ass.

Quit?????

sounds like Joe Burke has made you an offer, no big lost, need any help packing, directions, leave the Keys and take the first road to the left for 2 hours and Joes house is on the right, happy trails.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm...........

does he think he is irreplaceable?????? Yea, right.

Let him go!!!

This is the best news I have heard in a while. He is really just saving his own rear-end as the new superintendent would have found just cause to fire him for incompetence. How can you get a job after that?? He needs an out. Please don't pay him, it will save us more than $60,000 if he leaves by Aug. 1! He is utterly incompetent-all of the staff knows it too. Gentile was actually put into his new position because Kinneer couldn't handle it-CFO demoted to purchasing director essentially. Most of the finance work is still contracted out to outside companies when we are paying over $300,000 with benefits to these two clowns. Not to mention all of the money we are paying a labor attorney to do their job with the contract negotiations. Our district is so small as compared to other districts, find talented administrators and teachers to to do the work for a hefty supplement of 10-20K, they would run circles around these guys for a fraction of the cost. We don't need top heavy bloated bureaucrats sitting in meetings all day, we need people balancing the books-actually working! By the way, when did Mr. CFO $ wizard figure out that his pay was cut short!?!?! This week!!!?? That sums up his abilities right there...clueless. I bet someone told him.

Please.

Yes please hurry up and quit. Take the other incompetents with you if you like. Take that moron who lied about his CPA. In any business in the real world he would be fired immediately for lying on his resume or application. All you overpaid trough feeders need to go unless you can prove you are worth the money and what you actually do 40 hours a week for it.
