5 School Board hopefuls agree
New blood needed, say contenders who attended controversial forum

The Monroe County School District is suffering from a revolving-door style of leadership that has lowered employee morale, bungled financial management and turned off the public, five of the eight candidates for School Board on the Aug. 14 primary ballot said Friday evening at a debate.

Attention parents the MCSD has eliminated the sponsorship

of the affordable HSR accident & health insurance policy for all Monroe County. This program helped many families that don't have insurance offered or provided through their employer. It covered any medical and dental expenses incurred as a result of an accident during the days and hours when school is in session. It also provided coverage for the students when they went supervised school activities on and off the school grounds. Granted this program wasn't the best coverage but it did cover some emergency care and doctor visits for fee of about $133.00 per school year at the parents' expense. Any child invoved in any extra curricular activity ie sports, band etc is required to be covered by insurance. This policy made that posssible for many children and their families to be able to be involved in these activities. Child only policies in the state at Florida are only available through 2 companies. The policies are only available in 6 month intervals at the cost of $75.00 a month for an 80/20 policy with a 2,500 deductible. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of FL offers a child only policy but it doesn't cover emergency room visits. The MCSD has not informed parents of this change and a lot of parents who's kids are involved in sports and other extra curricular activities are going to find out out in the next 2 to 3 weeks that the HSR is no longer available to the MCSD district school children. Sadly the MCSD was not the only one to drop the sponsorship of this policy. Many other counties has as well. Miami Dade is the only county in the state of Florida that still sponsors this program. Our candidates should be addressing this important issue as well! This is another example of the MCSD administration eliminating important programs with out notifying parents and students of this important issue before school starts!

She has my vote.

Well said Mrs. Talbott. Are they having a similar forum in Key West anytime? What about in Islamorada?

The Kooks

Looks like the only viable candidates stayed away from this dance of the nuts. The only question is whether or not there were more kooks in the audience or on the dias.

Answer:

The audience...They're remind me of mass of Lemmings falling off a cliff.
