Julie Ann 'JEWELS' Phillips

Oct. 13, 1967-July 26, 2012

Julie "Jewels" Phillips of Key West went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 26, 2012.

She fell deeply in love with Key West and was the happiest while she was here.

We are so grateful for her Key West "family" and friends, whom she held close and in high esteem.

Julie will be greatly missed. The self-proclaimed freshwater Conch enjoyed the "Keysey" lifestyle. She was an active participant here, becoming more and more involved in the community, as a volunteer at the Florida Keys SPCA, a cat lover and activist.

She was an inspiration to the many people she met.

Julie graduated from Puget Sound University, where she majored in mathematics. She represented Washington State in the 2001 Miss Wheelchair Pageant held in Denver, Colo. Accounting was Julie's profession.

She leaves behind her father, David Phillips, and mother, Janet, of Buckley, Wash.; brother, Scott of Yakima, Wash.; grandparents, David and Bonnie Phillips and Glenn and Louise; cousins, Shelly Thompson, Berkeley Eislee and Darleen Root; as well as other family members.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Julie's name to the Florida Keys SPCA.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at the corner of Alberta and Seminole streets in Key West, between Louie's Backyard restaurant/bar and the Casa Marina Resort. Call 305-942-1864 for more information.

Services are being handled by Castillo & Thurston Key West Mortuary.
