New schools chief starts Wednesday, Board meets Tuesday

Incoming Superintendent Mark Porter is arriving in Monroe County to find a proposed budget that includes an additional $1.5 million in state funding but at $79.5 million is still leaner than last year.

Monroe County taxpayers will see a 5.5 percent increase over last year's tax rate, due to the state's Required Local Effort.
