'Parrot' bouncers beaten bloody

A bouncer affectionately known by Green Parrot Bar patrons as the gentle giant and "Wookie" is fighting for his life after he and another bouncer were jumped by two men early Saturday in Key West's Old Town district, his wife said.

Tim Grandy, 46, remained in critical condition Wednesday in the intensive care unit of Lower Keys Medical Center, fighting a lung in...

According To Posters On The Facebook Link....

The two suspects work(ed) at Hard Rock Cafe on Duval Street.

Last week a woman got raped in the parking lot/alley behind 200 Duval. A month ago local sushi chef Chakira (Pussyman) got jumped in 200 block (Teasers)and had to be medivaced by copter to Miami.

It's good to see Tim and Dude have so much support.

And let us not forget

The server who had his head bashed in and died. The Fantasy Fest murder. The gay bashings / hate crimes. The break-ins and robberies and tire slashings and petty street crimes. The rapes we hear little about that go unreported. The juvenile delinquent problem. The drug related crimes. The list goes on and on and on and on. Hey, most people check out the Monroe County Sheriff's website and mugshots of current inmates everyday to see someone they know! That is truly sad. For a small population on a little island that thinks it is 'paradise' is sure has a lot to learn. Time will tell and please remember social media is ripe with this stuff - Key West is becoming not so much a quirky little island but a crime ridden tourist trap to avoid

REAL JOB definition for the locals

One who lives and works in Key West in an industry not related to tourism - i.e. the US govt on base (think FBI, DOD, DEA, DHS, ICE, etc.), a military member (any branch, they're all here), a civilian working for a branch of the military (JIATF-S, SOUTHCOM, AFNORTH, STARS, FAT ALBERT blimp site, etc.) or a GS civil service position. They all have housing or an allowance, all the services offered to them on base (such as the VA clinic, the exchange, etc.) and have not only benefits such as retirement, health care, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave but also all the perks of the 'real world' mainland employment including tenure and security. Tourism is not their concern nor why they draw a salary. They live here and are paid extremely well to do so. They are able to live in paradise and stay away from the main parts of local culture. This group is far more influential and far more secret than you think. You just don't know..... and you never will.....

Your rude post

Has really nothing to do with the facts. "Real Jobs" are ones that feed your family and clothe them and pay to keep a roof over their head- no more and no less. Should all these persons stop what they are doing and get on unemployment or welfare because kelliec says they're not REAL jobs??You sound like a person who thinks because you sit at a desk all day, your job is "real" and the people working in the service industry are not. YOU are "unreal" not the working people of this Island and I ASSURE you, they outnumber you; bartenders, door people, servers, cooks, dishwashers, front desk personnel, housekeepers, landscapers, painters, water sports people, charter fishing, dive masters, store clerks, cab drivers, airport employees, bus drivers, sales in hotels, human resources personnel, law enforcement, entertainers, wedding planners, florists, photographers, bakers, Realtors, beer sales, beers delivers, liquor sales, liquor deliverers, Sysco corp and their drivers (et al) now lets mention the maintenance people and all their supplies and needs etc.as well as owners of the establishments they work in! Get a clue, we all have "real jobs" when we make a living!

Neither of these douche bags

Neither of these douche bags were locals aka born in key west. The locals were the ones attacked....both are loved by us and supported by real locals. They have been apart of this island for many years...

wrong

civilian GS here, I do not get those perks. guess again

Right - your lying GS employee -

GS you lie just like a government employee! Here are some of your so called benefits: The GS salary scale means step increases in merit pay so you are just about guaranteed a raise. Incluing cost of living adjustments. Plus, it takes a moron to actually get fired from a GS job so you have a secured position for life. And lets not forget some of those benefits! Health, Dental, Vision insurance. Holiday, Vacation and Sick time. The Federal Employee Retirement System, Thrift Savings Plan. Life Insurance, Disability and Long Term Care Insurance. Access to BASE HOUSING at a discount rate (I believe rent including utilities for a 2 bedroom is around $900 per month and a 3 bedroom around $1300 a month, correct? Lucky!) As a federal general schedule (GS) employee, you have a rewarding benefits package. In addition to salary, these benefits are a added bonus to the overall compensation package. The federal government tries to provide employees with benefits that are needed and wanted, and by doing so, set up a model standard for other employers to follow. A federal GS employee may have a benefit package that is worth 20 percent or more of his annual salary. The GS employee benefits are one of the reasons so many people seek out federal employment. So who is wrong - your BS or my facts???

However us without "real"

However us without "real" jobs pay taxes too. Pretty sure some of that goes to your salaries, housing allowance and healthcare. Also we are very aware of these "secret jobs" and support all of their staff. It's unfortunate that you would want to disconnect yourself from that "local culture". This isn't the time to spend energy on right, wrong or what is or isn't a persons job. Right now is to care for 2 people we care for and make sure they receive the best care and support they need to recover quickly.

Those are government jobs and they are indeed dependent

Those are government jobs and they are indeed dependent upon tourism. They're paid by the taxpayers, and here, the taxpayers are generally directly or indirectly employed by the tourist industry. Government workers seem to have this idea in their heads that they are beholding to no one for their positions. They really can't wrap their minds around the fact that they are paid by US. See, that's why it's such a pain to go to any county or city office for anything basic. These people just don't get it that they work for US and so, their entitlement attitudes don't allow them to actually do their jobs. Besides, to do their jobs would mean they'd have to step away from their 8 hour covered dish lunch, now wouldn't it?

No they are not dependent but you are on tourism

You just think they depend on tourism - the government employee could care less if Key West was a tourist town, a fishing town or a ghost town as they would still be here doing their job. The military and the government has been here far longer. And when the last tourist is fed up with the staggering crime and high prices for junk in this backwater rock, they will still be here. You are just jealous you didn't get a secure position with all the perks and you have to live with your meager druge of a job, filthy living conditions and pitiful life based on the tips from some hick cruise ship passenger from Smallville USA as you bus their table, serve their dinner or clean up their mess. Frustrated much?

Take your Prozac dear. You

Take your Prozac dear. You are a bitter, sad person. Go move to a mountain top where you will not have to put up with hicks from smallsville. The only one who seems frustrated is you.

You sound like

one of those bitter eastern block illegal Euros!

Shooting yourselves in the foot

The initial charges are determined by the police with the information they have at the time. The amount of bond for many crimes is set by statute. Dennis Ward has nothing to do with that. After the SA is aware of the arrests and the facts, the charges can be, and in this case, were upgraded to felonies. Attacking Dennis Ward is completely out of line and baseless, which shows in part how desperate and ignorant Vogel supporters are.

Beating someone SEVERELY is not a serious problem

Like the homeless ... look at the jail full of homeless people (its privately owned and we wouldn't want empty beds or we might have to lay off some of the sheriffs saving the taxpayer $) It seems Key West sends the message come on down and beat our locals to near death after all NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU ... http://keysnews.com/node/14025 this was a rich kid (if you can afford lawyers you can come to key west and beat people at random and just go free) and of course this is still an open case (don't rush the rich kid) It is sickening the rise of violence in Key West but if noone gets punished it will only continue... more than 3 yrs later this is still being considered ... does anyone remember laughing at the crime reports in the citizen back in the mid 90s ... now there is not much to laugh at except the fact that it is more important that a bum not drink a beer in public than locals being beat to death

When Did The Jail Become "Privately Owned"?

Do you know something which taxpayers of Monroe County do not know? What's the name of the Corporation or entity owning the Monroe County Jail?

How can we contribute to the Grandy and Dantz fund?

Can anyone post a link or the Facebook name that we can go to and contribute to?

If you would like to help Tim & Dude

Ward Doesn't Care

Ward is too concerned with making up Sunshine Law violations and "busting" local politicians to actually care about all of the dangerous criminals that walk freely among us. Get rid of him before more of our friends and neighbors are hurt!

Your posts make no sense. How exactly is Ward not doing

Your posts make no sense. How exactly is Ward not doing his job with these criminals? They were arrested. They will be tried. Are you one of our less-than-stellar county employees who was nailed by violating Sunshine laws or for stealing from taxpayers? Or are you just one of Vogel's stooges making things up again? You're probably all of the above.

There have been serial

There have been serial burglaries in town over the last 3 years and the 'perps' always get off, then told to leave town.

Nope. Wrong again, minion of Ward.

His office LOST a sexual battery case just this week--as he campaigns. Look up the McKinney case--a robbery. One of his assistants gave her defense attorney husband's law firm a great deal--PROBATION. No conviction and probation for a ROBBERY! No favors there, right? Violent and repeat criminals are ignored while Ward focuses tax payer resources on petty political stuff. Face it, Ward is only concerned with getting his name in the paper and not with the citizens of this county. Talk about a stooge.

VOTE OUT DENNIS WARD!!!!!

They need to look into why they were not charged with a felony...This is an outrage VOTE OUT DENNIS WARD!!!!!

?? Ms. Vogel, I suggest you settle down.

?? Ms. Vogel, I suggest you settle down. You're making a spectacle of yourself.

I believe as of this morning

I believe as of this morning the charges have been increased to Felony battery. Per Dennis Ward

Unfair bonding out

When someone is charged with an assault they ought to have to stay in jail at least as long as their victim has to stay in the hospital! Yea, innocent until proven guilty and all that, but really?

GOODBYE TOURISTS - KEY WEST IS NOT SAFE 4 U

Say BYE BYE to your tourism Key West - this story has already hit the web and I can tell you that many of your dollars won't be spent in our crime ridden town. Stabbings at Fantasy Fest, homeless running ramant, rip off t-shirt shops overcharging credit cards, beatings, rapes, hate crime bashings against gays and locals and tow companies taking away your legally parked vehicle - does this spell the end of your tourist town? YOU BET IT DOES! Do you think ANYONE wants to be known as the CRIME CAPITAL OF FLORIDA? And you thought that was Miami! I can't wait to see how this plays out.... wish the victims a speedy recovery and wish the jerks that did this a nice long sentence.

Interesting....

Bad press can hurt us...hmmmm... Thanks for the mainland insight KW Newbie, guess you'll be running off too, bye bye

If only he/she would. It really sounds a bit like ole Sal with

If only he/she would. It really sounds a bit like ole Sal with yet another alias.

Yes, Interesting .... Very Interesting

As more of your tourism dollars go back to the mainland. As for leaving - I live here without the need for tourism dollars as I have a REAL job. And never need to go to Old Town. I enjoy the my water, my pool, my internet shopping and laughing at all you idiots who work 3 jobs trying to keep your head above water.

I can't imagine a job here in this town that doesn't rely

I can't imagine a job here in this town that doesn't rely in someway, either directly or indirectly, on the tourist industry. I have to laugh at those like you who move here then complain about where you live. You're mistaken if you think everyone works three jobs. We make a very nice living, thank you very much, and we don't need your business, so go ahead - enjoy your 'the my water' (whatever that is), your pool and your web shopping. We also are happy that you don't show up in Old Town.

What exactly is a REAL job?

What exactly is a REAL job? I have worked in this town for 20 years(not needing 3 jobs), own property, raised a family and enjoy my water, my pool and my local shopping. I don't work 9-5 and depend on tourists and locals alike (which technically I'm not sure what job you could have here that doesn't directly or indirectly depend on tourism). You can not go to any city small or large and not have issues. Our island is beautiful and is supported by an incredible community of neighbors. I'm sorry you see no need to venture into Old Town to see the glory that is and will be attractive to tourists for years to come. Some are choosing to look at this incident against to members of my island family as a problem. It is horribly unfortunate but it happens everywhere. What needs to be mentioned is the 1000's of people (including tourists) that have come together to show their support , love and generosity all which come from time And money earned at their REAL job

Parrot Bouncers Beaten Bloody

The Parrot bouncers are a couple of good guys trying to do the right thing. These thugs should be de-balled one way or another.

Ridiculous

Misdemeanor? Are you f'n kidding me? Last I checked, being in critical condition is grievace bodily injury and therefore felony assault/battery. $5000 bond, in other words, $500 (10%) to a bondsman, is just sickening. A man lies in a hospital bed clinging to life and a scumbag only has to pay $500 to walk free? This is severe injustice.

Ward for State's Attorney...

Another example of who we should not vote for..

Fact

I did not blame the SA for the charge or bail. That falls on KWPD and the judge. And so you know, the SAO has nothing to do with initial charges or bond.

I agree we should not vote for do nothing but whine Vogel!

Keep Dennis Ward as the States Attorney!

Arrest classification

How is this a misdemeanor?

Tell us more

about the scumbags that did this. Who are "Pavel Chernestov, 23, and Joshua Michael Kirby, 32"? Where do they work? Are they both legally here?

On the sheriff's website, Kirby shows up as a 'server'. I would

On the sheriff's website, Kirby shows up as a 'server'. I would like to know where so I can avoid any place that would hire someone like that.

We now know

they worked at The Hard Rock, please do not boycott the Hard Rock. I remember oh too well when the manager of that restaurant opened those doors and fed so many of us without electricity or food at home immediately following Wilma and his home was completely destroyed. He lost everything! Can't blame HRC for these slime balls.

They are charged only with

They are charged only with misdemeanors!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me, isn't it attempted murder at this point? One is already out on the streets. Tim is a great guy, friend, and father. These guys need to be locked up.

released

How can a guy accused of a violent assault be release on a fu...king measly $5000.00 bail. What is wrong with the stupid judge. He is a moron. It should have been $250,000 so the guy would rot in jail. Our best wishes of healing to Wookie and Dude.

Black Eye

Another black eye for the City of Key West. The chance of something bad happening to you downtown after midnight has grown exponentially in the past ten years. Where were the police when these petty thieves and thugs we're rifling through other peoples' property? One could assume the police were concentrated in the 200 block of Duval. Stabbings, beatings, purse snatchings and rape have become an all too often occurrence in old town. Alas, the chamber of goobers is too busy shoveling their cruiseship agenda to notice that Rome is crumbling around them. Wake up people, your City needs an overhaul.

Absolutely.

If this isn't a wake-up call for our city commission to demand 2 a.m. bar closings, I don't know what is!

Bartenders will make just as much money, earlier, and have more time to sleep.

Most importantly, we can cut this obscene crime which is terrorizing our city.

and if we took away cars

It would reduce traffic problems on the island... and eliminate DUI's

Predictable post.

Predictable post. Next comes the part about FF and people who don't fit Mac's concept of attractive. ::yawn::

Mac, get off the stump!

Mac, quit using other peoples misery to promote your agenda. We know you want bars to close at 2am. You say it loud and often. Just stay home, old man, and worry about your cats.

Do you have any

Do you have any statistics/facts/figures...anything that supports your argument about closing a bar 1-hr earlier would reduce crime? Seriously?

Your argument can be compared to gun-control. For example, take the guns(the problem!!!) out of the hands of the citizens(nooo, people wouldn't dare be idiotic enough to cause problems) and watch the crime disappear...right on, Mac.

So you're suggesting to keep people from drinking because they won't become as rowdy and prone to trouble? Get real dude. I say let the bars serve alcohol 24/7--this is a free country afterall.

On the other hand, I feel for the gentlemen assaulted in this case and the perps should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
