ISLAMORADA -- The Village Council will convene Thursday, Aug. 9, for two consecutive meetings.
First up is a 3 p.m. workshop during which council members will have their first discussion about the proposed 2012-13 budget for the village's wastewater construction program.
They'll also discuss the budget for operations of the north Plantation Key sewer system as well as hear presentations on several other village budget funds, including the Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina.
The 2012-13 daily operating budget, which the council discussed at two meetings last month, is not on the agenda at this week's workshop.
The workshop will be followed by the council's regular legislative session at 5:30 p.m.
On the agenda are several assessment renewals as well as a discussion about the prospects of hiring an in-house attorney to run the village's legal affairs. The Weiss Serota law firm out of Miami has run the village's legal department since shortly after incorporation in 1997.
Vice Mayor Ken Philipson was tasked by the council last month with exploring whether an in-house attorney would provide a cost savings.
The meetings will be held at the Founders Park Community Center.
