Joey Behan
We friends mourn the passing of Joey Behan, known to most as "Pinky," on Aug. 1. Born in Troy, N.Y., Pinky left home for San Francisco; then Provincetown; then, in 1984, Key West. He kept bar, waited or worked at Pappion's, La Te Da, Alice's, 801, Hamburger Mary's, Mama Flowers, et al and served as major-domo for his dear friend Silvia Shelly and later, her niece Carolyn. At all of these endeavors he worked like a trooper and gave his all. He fought HIV to a standstill but succumbed to cigarette-induced cancer after a long and valiantly fought battle. His friend and nurse, Lisa Kronus, was a great comfort to him. His ashes will be consigned to the sea in a private ceremony. A memorial celebration of his life will be announced later.
