Police raise money with flowers
The Key West Police Department's Orchid Auction & Extravaganza starts at 3:30 today at Square One restaurant in Duval Square, 1075 Duval St. The incorrect day was listed in The Citizen's Friday edition.
The department will auction off orchids in decorative pots from the Monroe Association for Remarkable Citizens' (MARC) nursery. Hors d'oeuvres, soft drinks, cash bar and Jimmy Olson on the piano will be featured.
The money raised will benefit the police department's LOVE fund, established in 2006 to help officers and their families in times of extreme hardship when no other resources are available. Admission is a suggested $10 donation at the door, and it's $5 extra for an auction paddle. The auction starts at 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 305-809-1062.

Sanctuary advisory panel meets
NOAA's Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary will hold a public meeting of the Sanctuary Advisory Council at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Marathon Government Center, 2798 Overseas Highway.
The public comment periods are 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
Items on the agenda include a 9:15 a.m. presentation by Sanctuary Superintendent Sean Morton on comments from the Sanctuary and National Wildlife Refuges' initial public scoping period. At 1 p.m., Anne Walton of NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries will talk about marine zoning, and at 2:45 p.m., Michael Bresette of Inwater Research Group will discuss the Key West National Wildlife Refuge sea turtle project.

Seminar calls to men
The "Call to Men Training Institute" seminar along with a sunset cruise will be from 1 p.m. Sept. 30 through 1 p.m. Oct. 2 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Grand Key Resort, 3990 S. Roosevelt Blvd., according to its host, the Domestic Abuse Shelter (DAS).
