City adopts new recycling policy
Contract to go out to bid if Waste Management can't meet demands

Drawing applause and cheers from a crowd of about 60 in the Old City Hall meeting room, Key West city commissioners unanimously accepted a master "trash" plan that includes provisions for hiring a full-time recycling coordinator and creating policies to substantially reduce the amount of garbage that is not composted, recycled or otherwise disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

Yes, The Cities answer to

Yes, The Cities answer to everything is to hire a new full time employee. Remember how they hired a parking Director? He is still pulling in his huge salary and benefits and what has he done? I have the same 5 poorly marked resident spots on my streets always full of cars with out of state plates. How about giving him the job so we don't have to add another $150k to our bloated budget?

Insanity.

We spent nearly half a million dollars to be told that Waste Management has been screwing us for 13 years? Hell, we've got city contractors who've been screwing us a lot longer than that.

And where was the mention of bars recycling? Not likely to appear in any legislation.

Worst of all, our dear commissioners want to add a recycling czar to city staff-- at a cost of probably $50-100K per year. Hey, commissioners, we should be cutting city staff, not adding to it.

With Panico bitching that loss of cruise ship income caused our $400K budget shortfall, did we really need to flush $400K down the toilet for this "study"?

Will someone please introduce an ordinance banning any future "studies"?

I'd rather

see an ordinance banning your constant hate of Key Weat and everything involved.
