Mayor: Shelter doesn't need new management

The Keys Overnight Temporary Shelter (KOTS), set up on county-owned land next-door to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office on Stock Island, will remain run by the nonprofit that s...

Mayor Cates

We the people (but not I !!) re-elected Mayor Cates. Ya'll should think about how he is spending/wasting our tax dollars next time.

Work for services provided

These people are capable workers, they should have to work to stay. Most actually have jobs and we carry the burden of thier "rent" and shelter. Make them work on a crew cleaning the island or other tasks . Time for the free services to end. We create our own problems , these freeloaders don't respect what they are given. As I witnessed last night by the bum urinating into the water on the bike path, a KOTS resident .

freeloaders

You are exactly right! - Well said!

Human Petting Zoo

And now some of the highlights like the "penalty box" leak out. This place will be a horror show. Tickets will be sold so the public can witness events such as beer chugging, cane jousting, carry-on luggage racing, iguana calling, and simulated bike stealing competitions. VIP tickets will be reserved for the politicians and board members who approve this atrocity. Wagering on the events will be sanctioned by the State of Florida Gaming Commision. Contestants will be paid with Natty Ice, Steel Reserve and Baloney Sandwiches.

TAXPAYERS.....footing the ENTIRE bill now?

Where is the MONEY coming from.....Mayor Cates? First.....we were paying $400,000.00 a year. Now....you're talking to "professionals" .....who operate a place in Hollywood, Florida that runs at $800,000.00 ? Plus....you want to hire some "expert" in addition? WHOSE PAYING FOR ALL OF THESE PIPE DREAMS? We...the TAXPAYERS are. It's a BAD idea. I haven't seen one person......visit that RV "rescue" vehicle. Not one. Another huge waste of money. Forget this idea.

Something useful

Take all this money and apply it to something useful. Like finishing the boulevard sooner. All the free handouts are not a help. They enable bad behavior. If you want to lessen a person's burden, then teach them to do something ! Getting on your feet is one thing, this is another......

The whole RV thing is kind

The whole RV thing is kind of funny. Our tax dollars funding peope to drive around and find bums only to help them apply for more of our tax dollars. How about funding one way bus tickets instead?
