FLORIDA KEYS

Use 511 for holiday traffic updates

With 1.4 million travelers expected to be on the roads in Florida this Labor Day, the Florida Department of Transportation is encouraging travelers to use the state's 511 Traveler Information System to stay up-to-date on traffic crashes, congestion, construction and more on Florida's interstates and toll roads.

Travelers can call 511, visit FL511.com, download the 511 app on iTunes or follow 511 on Twitter.

For custom travel alerts, register for My Florida 511 personalized services on FL511.com. Users can register their vacation routes online to hear information on that route first when calling 511.

Travelers can also register to receive traffic alerts via phone call, text message or email. 511 callers can transfer to Florida's major airports on the 511 phone system.

KEY WEST

Habitat continues renovations

Volunteer work crews are in the process of repairing and renovating the Habitat Eisenhower Apartments on the corner of Newton Street and Eisenhower Drive in Key West.

The units have received new floors, painted walls, fixed windows and new kitchen cabinets.

Anyone interested in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity's skilled crew Tuesdays through Friday should contact Anna Symington at volunteer@habitatlowerkeys.org or 305-294-9006. She will arrange for volunteers to join Site Supervisor David Miller.

Saturdays are Open Volunteer Days for Habitat, and everyone is invited to show up at the work site and the team leader will put you to work regardless of construction skills.
