


MARION MCGIMSEY
'A TRUE CONCH'
Marion McGimsey was born in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 27, 1924, to Isabel Roig and Marion McGimsey. He was raised in Key West, where he joined the U.S. Navy and served for three years during World War II. He then worked at Naval Ordnance Unit Key West as a crane operator supervisor.
Marion leaves behind two daughters Marian McGimsey Coates of Round Rock, Texas and Xiomara McGimsey of Tampa, Fla. He also leaves behind a daughter Terri Zapata and son Brian McGimsey of Tampa, Fla.
He has five grandchildren: Robert Earl Coates, married to Jessica Coates, Heath Wayne Coates, married to Maria Coates, Arielle Zapata, Aaron Zapata, and Alina Zapata
He also has six great grandchildren: Joseph Wayne Coates, Miranda Nicole Coates, Betsey Natalie Coates, Amanda Christina Coates, Isabel Grace Coates, and Emily Rose Coates sister-in-law Betty Pazo of Key West and nieces Terri Linderman, and Debbie Pazo of Key West; cousins Violet Bennith, Ada Frederickson, Charles Roig, Jr., and many, many friends.
He was a great man, wonderful father, and the best grandfather and great grandfather. There is no man who gave so much to his family and who expected so little in return from the ones he knew and loved. He will be missed by all. We all know he is in heaven and at peace.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday Sept. 9, 2012 at the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home, 418 Simonton St., Key West, Fla. Burial will be in Key West City Cemetery.
Visitation will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday Sept. 9 until service time at the funeral home.
The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
