Fate of pair up for discussion

The Monroe County Commission, on Monday, will discuss possible punishment for its two top administrators and others who have been named in a grand jury report dealing with the theft of county iPads and iPhones.

The 19-page grand jury report released last month called for the commission to fire County Administrator Roman Gastesi and Deputy County Administrator Debbie Frede...

Poor, poor decision

If anyone else gets any real punishment, it will be blatant favoritism and discrimination. Lawsuit. Lawsuit. Lawsuit. This leniency was decided behind closed doors and against the wish of the people.

what's there to discuss???

what's there to discuss, it's a no- brainer? either they knew they were buying stolen property and are corrupt criminals or they were too stupid not to and are too incompetent to be administrators, either way they should be fired and lose all benefits including pensions and health insurance. the only discussion that should be happening is what crimes they should be charged with... recieving and possession of stolen property or conspiracy to deal in stolen property.

The right thing

The right thing to do is fire them both. This is what the grand Jury put forth and they should follow it as it expresses the will of the people. This town is too fast to get in bed with thieves. How can are youth be expected to be honest when they see our supposed leaders condoning theft and backroom deals. If they keep these two then they are no better than wan-a-be Sheriff Ramsay hiring Ex-FDLE thief Vince Wiener. All crooked dealings by people in power that shouldn't be. When will they learn they are elected to serve us not line their pockets and in Vince's case give their "bubba bubbies" deals at our tax payer expense. enough is enough!

Sounds like business as

Sounds like business as usual. Don't forget these Commissioners when elections come around.

FIRE THEM

Again FIRE THEM, the Couny reps aren't inclined to fire them ? Then they should be fired themselves , NUEGENT, you may be a lame duck but quit covering up CORRUPTION.

Not right

The County Commission should not be making any decisions as one of their own purchased the stolen goods. There needs to be a neutral third party to make these decisions. Once again...the corrupt win in Monroe County. Theft is theft no matter how you look at it, crime is crime. Obviously the law doesnt apply to everyone in the Keys. We will remember this come election time. I also feel Carruthers should step down. Anyone in this town have morals?!?

what's the point

of having an investigation and grand jury? The writing is on the wall. Everyone will walk but Druckmiller.

Monroe (Last Chance) County

According To Commissioner Murphy the decision to not comply with the 'Grand Jury's' recommendations to terminate our County Administrator has basically been predetermined. She would have been better off by not commenting (like Mr. Gastesi did not in the past two weeks) and let the hearing play itself out. Time to put this all behind us and move forward. Hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again. I'm sure that everyone has learned their lesson and I'm convinced that as the top public servant in the county, Mr. Gastesi will set better examples of leadership in both his personal and professional life. Hopefully, at least there will be an expression of remorse and a sincere apology to the residents and employees of Monroe County. Jim Crane, Big Coppitt

da bubba system

now we will see how da bubba system works...Just wondering if they will even have to pay the original cost of the equipment...throw away the key for druckemiller

Firing shouldn't be necessary

If they had ANY honesty, morals, integrity, or decency, they both would have already quit without having been asked to. I can't believe there haven't been more people charged criminally.

Fate of Pair

FIRE THEM. Only in Key West/Monroe Cty. would not firing them even be considered an option. These people are not irreplaceable, and they violated the public trust. Any private sector company would have already fired them for dishonesty.

Discussion..

whats to discuss, the Grand Jury has spoken. They are a group of Monroe County citizens who reviewed the fact and made their recommendations, failure to comply should result in action by the SAO.
