But gets letter of reprimand, bill for policy probe

Roman Gastesi will keep his job as Monroe County administrator, but he'll have to pay for a probe into possible policy violations by county employees, the County Commission agreed Monday.

Commissioners voted 4-1 to keep Gastesi on the job, with Commissioner Kim Wigington casting the one dissenting vote. The commission unanimously agreed to put a letter of reprimand in Gas...

Poor Judgement

He will get Zero respect from anybody in the office now. He will be beholden to the County Commission and will feel obligated to do what ever they say. He will be an ineffective and diminished person. Even though, it's the Soldier that is more severly punished for losing a rifle, than the General that loses a battle. The Commission has only succeeded in creating their own puppet.

keeping crooks

that is very nice of the county commission to go after the small employees and let Roman & Debbie go with a reprimand that is so fair that is why get rid of all of them making this decision wow

Civics lesson

Thank you Commissioner Wigington for having a sense of ethics. Your fellow commissioners obviously do not. George Nugent early on said he wasn't certain Gastesi COULD be fired because he had a contract. Like there is not ever a clause in a contract covering unethical behavior. Gastesi's Miami buddies are lined up to take the contact for sewer hookups for the lower Keys. God forbid we should interfere with that. Gastesi did not know these Iphones were hot items, like Randy Acevedo did not know the items in his house were paid for by district funds. The whole commission with the exception of Commissioner Wigington has no spine, no ethics and certainly no sense of right and wrong.

Snivelling

at its best....WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I'm embarrassed for him.

Light him up

Should have been lit up. Fired. We can still fire the commissioners in November. Have not live here long enough if anticipated their termination. What a gang.

Seriously?

What do you have to do to get fired from a public job in this town? Kill someone?

::snark::: OH YOUCH! A Letter of Reprimand? Really?

This guy has cost taxpayers a ton of money and he's wringing his hands, sobbing and going with the 'let's get back to work' thing?

How can he be trusted to do anything if he'd allow this kind of mess?

It's time to vote out the commissioners who voted to keep him.

Roth? Really?

Roth? Really? As the retired head of the biggest taxpayer-funded mess in the county, how in the world can anyone expect him to know thievery if he sees it? His own officers were buying and receiving stolen goods, he was told about it and he refused to do anything about it. Pathetic.

dam it is okay for the

dam it is okay for the captain of the ship to be a crook, but the commissionner want to go after the employees for purchasing i phones because they wanted the same sweetheart deal there boss was provided and the same policy,s there Boss violated. Also the Clerk of the Court had provided the changes of policys in place so this kind of shit dont happen. but was never implemented. why because they were all friends at happy hour. Roman gang all Division Directors ( A.K.A Debbie Fredricks, Tina Boan,Teresa Aguiar, and Lisa )they all went out together to Out Back Steakhouse on Fridays, may Debbie could tell us who tipped Lisa off, about the investigation so that she could put her Retirement papers in. now we get to real justices now Roman is having the employees investigated for violating the same policys that there boss violated. wow maybe if the Admin personnel, would have attend some of there own training on ethic they provide from one of Roman,s good buddy from Dade County this would have help your own staff.shame on you Roman.a few months ago Roman made a comment the half of the Monroe County employee,s are thieves well does that mean you to Roman, because half of your staff purchased stolen property. but again the County employee will suffer because the 2 (King Pin,s) gets a plea deal. Roman help us obtain the funding for the sewer projects.so its okay to violate policys Now the County Commissioner want to blame the Little guys the employees.good thinking you idots.

Fire

Ridiculous. Get rid of the those that voted to keep this thief. What in the world is going on, people?

Gastesi

WOW! This county and Key West stinks ethically as much as the rotting seaweed. You people who put these commissioners in office get what you deserve when these things come up. I leave this Saturday after three years here, never to return, and will always remember and tell people about how bad the Keys and Key West really are. I know, "good riddence to me". Believe me, the feeling is mutual. What low lifes many of you are, not all, but many, enough to make this place stink.

You should ask if Sal has a spare room

It seems you two might be a good match.

Curious

Chuck, have you ever heard of a place called Tall Timbers?

Ridiculous

He was, in an indirect way, an accomplice to a significant theft from the county... the taxpayers... his employer. He HAD to have at least suspected the goods he bought were stolen. If he didn't, he's stupid. If he did suspect something and went ahead and bought it/them, he's a crook. Either way, he should have been fired. BOCC, this is disappointing.

Gastesi

How can Gasstesi possibly function as an administrator when he has lost the respect of his employees? The BOCC has acted unprofessionally and based their vote on their friendship with Gastesi. And why wasn't Carruthers recused from the vote? The BOCC has failed the people of our county.

Bum's

The County Commissioners have proven that they are bums and must be voted out. Gastesi is not worth the liability he is, he has proven he can lie and can get away with it, he is untrustworthy and has earned a place as a Bubba in a crooked political machine. Time to vote the commissioners out and start with new ones.

no surprise

a letter of reprimand WOW... what a punishment. No surprise here . Crooks galore trying to benefit while running our govt. He should have been fired and fined

LOST RESPECT

I have lost all respect for the county commissioners. This is a sad day in Monroe County history.

Basicly they did NOTHING.

A letter of reprimand might mean something in the military to a career officer, but in this context it is meaningless. This isn't even a slap on the wrist. I guess all these political types kiss each other's butt so much that is all they can manage. What a bunch of clowns we have elected.

Wink(-) Wink(-)

Nod nod ... We got the Roman covered. Now who can help him reload his apps and transfer his address book to his legitimate iPhone so we can get on with this corruption?

Cudjoe Key

Fire the people who voted to keep him also. This is ridiculous.

Fire him

I can't believe that they are letting him keep his job. That is the problem with our government today, we have lost our integrity. He should be fired immediately. The lack of corruption is one of the things that have made this country great, we are losing that. There is no excuse for this.

ignorant

voters...We the people...Get it? Go Bullard!!!!

How could he possibly

How could he possibly discipline the employees?!?!?

Big Broom

They can purchase a big broom with a long handle at Home Depot to sweep everything under the rug. So much for the Grand Jury recommendation, what a waste of the county citizens time. What does the SAO have to say?

Agree. It's a farce.

And his sobbing and touting other projects? Smoke and mirrors.

"In your face, Citizens!" So

"In your face, Citizens!" So sayeth the County Commission.

SAO

I don't know what the SAO says, but I have a little bit of a law background. In order to prosecute for receiving stolen property, which is the same statute as theft, itself, you have to be able to prove he knew the I-Pad was stolen. Not suspected, not common sense, knew. Proving that element in this scenario is nearly impossible. However, it does raise a good issue about questionable conduct and common sense. Also, remember, the only SA that has addressed public corruption was just voted out, and the race is now between 2 corrupt bubba lemmings. Get used to public officials getting away with this stuff.

With the exception of Ms Wigginton

the County commission has shown what crooks they are also. I hope the SAO prosecutes the purchasers of the phones.

The Big Broom was purchased already

on Primary day. The outgoing SAO went too far in prosecuting and not giving out sweetheart plea deals. Let's see if Druckmiller gets the jail time and loss of pension that he wanted under a new SAO.
