Acevedo finishes sentence
Former schools chief served 3 years' probation

On Randy Acevedo's calendar, Monday, Sept. 17, is a red-letter day of sorts.

The date marks the end of his criminal court sentence of three years' probation for trying to shield his wife from the investigation that sent her to prison for embezzling $413,000 from the public schools while he was superintendent.

The Acevedos were dealt separate fates from t...

Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone

This horse alive and kicking.

Your comment is incorrect and unfair to our friends at The Citizen. It's incorrect because the story is very newsworthy. This was one of the biggest stories of the decade in Key West. There's great local interest-- which is the assignment of a local newspaper. Also, there's the question of whether or not Acevedo has fulfilled the conditions of his probation. Was he seen at local bars associating with known "bubbas" and imbibing? Other questions are outstanding, as well. Has he paid due restitution? A lot remains to be reported.

I'm the first to jump all over what I consider biased Citizen coverage of the cruise ship, city hall or chamber of commerce coverage. But, in this case, the coverage of both the Randy and Monique Acevedo cases has been Bristol-- top-notch.

I now return to my customary bashing.

God bless The Citizen

Topic may be newsworthy, lack of content of this article proves that there is nothing new about this news. Please ask the hard questions, get actual answers and do some real local reporting. Your very comment "A lot remains to be reported" seems to agree with the lack of content. I wouldn't characterize cut and paste as "Bristol" as you put it.

This really isn't newsworthy.

The Citizen is beating a dead horse here. Find something else to write about please. If something major happens with regard to the Acevedo stuff, report on it. Otherwise try not to be the tabloid that everyone now considers you to be.

Congrats!

Congrats Randy! You may be a Conch hero, but your still a convicted felon thief slinging TV's at Sears.

RE: Dog brains

I'm not very fond of the bubbas in KW but I have to say that Randy is a good guy and I know he didn't know what was going on, that man doesn't have a bad bone in his body! And so what if he's a convicted felon? I'm a convicted felon also and happen to be a very succesful real estate investor, what you are is a coward that is maybe jealous of Randy??? I think so, who care if he's slinging tv's??? I have sold avocados at roadside in Miami not too long ago and now I'm in a very nice financial situation! I think you want to be like Randy! right! Yeah you do!

A travesty.

Randy should have been in prison and should remain there for at least the duration of his partner in crime. She was bringing the stolen loot into his house, for crying out loud. At the very least, he was a co-conspirator.

oh lord

This newsworthy article is sure to garner some insightful comments.

He knew all along

Randy knew the whole time, his wife was bringing home all this stuff he must have surly knew it didn't just fall off the truck. This is a trend in the Keys, look at the County Manager crying to save his job because he just did not know the stuff was "Hot". Will this be the defense of choice in future cases? We can not trust these guys and we must not forget on election day.
