50 YEARS AGO

Arthur Valladares was elected president of the Key West Kiwanis Club in a regular meeting at the Sun and Sand Restaurant.

Joseph Whalton of Marathon was holding a dog obedience school with classes meeting every Monday evening in the A&P parking lot on Flagler Avenue.

Archie Lowe, a Key West native, opened a civil engineering office on Caroline Street. He had a degree in civil engineering and was a registered land surveyor.
