Scare tactics used in latest scam
Callers use mind games to get money from unsuspecting loved ones

New reports of a scam in which swindlers tell people they kidnapped a loved one and will hurt or kill them unless they are paid suggest that multiple con artists are operating close to home and in groups.

The fraud appears simple on its face: The caller will tell their mark that a loved one was involved in some kind of vehicle crash and the scammer has kidnapped the person...
