Arrest made in patrol car burglary

A Big Pine teenager accused of breaking into a marked police car and stealing a SWAT officer's automatic rifle, handguns and tactical gear was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a fervent 24-hour investigation that Sheriff Bob Peryam noted was still not complete.

Kalvin Cowger, 17, was charged with possession of stolen property and theft, but detectives said more charges...

Well it looks like another

Well it looks like another person got arrested for selling one of the pistols stolen from Fricke. Anthony Ostrander was arrested earlier today after another crime stoppers tip from the man who bought the gun. Still "in the wind" is Fricke's .45 Glock. Now can someone answer this for me? Why does Col Ramsay pat himself on the back for outstanding police work by his detectives, when this is the second arrest that came about because there was a crime stoppers tip? Really if cops were as good as they are on TV all car burglaries would be solved.

Wrong hands?

It sounds to me like the Colt M4 "fully automatic" assault weapon......was already in "the wrong hands" Sheriff. One other thought: Let's see.....Big Pine. M4 fully automatic weapon? Why?

Anyone notice that this

Anyone notice that this 17-year old's name was published for his alleged felony, but the KWHS Conch teens who committed felonies by stealing from their classmates were never named publicly?

Seriously? Deadly weapons

Seriously? Deadly weapons vs. iPods Big difference

Stupidity all around

Stupidity all around, from the cop leaving his guns in the vehicle and leaving it unlocked, to the burglar selling guns for pills, to the guy buying the guns and SWAT bag from a 17 year old pill head, but "didn't know they stolen". A lesson to be learned by all! I hope the cop gets a write up and some time off, and the thiefs get the book thrown at them.

"didn't know they stolen"

From this day forward that will be known in Monroe County as the "Roman" Defense. That's his get out of jail card.

Hope this doesn't hurt his

Hope this doesn't hurt his self esteem.
