ADELL FRANCIS ALCE CAREY

Adell Francis Alce Carey was born April 22, 1938, in Key West to the late Clarence T. Alce, Sr., and Lucille Mabel Fisher Alce. She was the oldest of seven siblings born to this couple. Adell was christened at Bethel AME Church, which she joined as a teenager. She attended Douglass High School where she received her education. In 1955 she met Donald Carey; and in 1957 they were married at Newman United Methodist Church. Adell later joined Newman United Methodist Church and remained a member until her death.

From this 55-year union, four children were born, Donna Rene' Carey Patton (Phillip), Dale Adrian Carey (Kimberly), Isabelle Lucille Carey Graves, and Donald Nathan Carey (Centralia). She has nine grandchildren: Shimain Hickson Punch (Jamil), Wilyan Jones (Tanya), Jhantae Jones (Alexis), Monroe Holloway III (Kimara), Dontrell Holloway (Megan), Kaisha Carey, Dale Kenneth Carey, Tamira Carey and Arnel Carey. She has 10 great-grandchildren: Larry Goodwin, Latina, Issachar, and Lakhiya Punch; Jaeden and Jae Bells Jones; Brielle Alisia and Jhantae Jones Jr.; Rosaliah Holloway; and Donelle Holloway.

Adell retired after more than 30 years from the Department of Defense Non-appropriated Fund MWR Department; where she supervised the Housekeeping Division at the Bachelor Officers' Quarters.

Adell was a member of the Eastern Stars for 37 years and a member of the American Legion.

On Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at 8 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach, Fla., Adell left us to be with our Father and his Son our Lord, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Clarice Alce Chapple and Audrey Alce Allen and a brother, Clayton Alce.

Adell is survived by her loving husband, Donald, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Oretha Thompson, brothers: Clarence T. Alce Jr. (May) and Alvin Alce (Dehavalyn), brother-in-law Emerson Allen and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. Both services will be held at Newman United Methodist Church, with Minister Beverly Greene Mingo officiating. All arrangements are entrusted to Castillo & Thurston's Key West Mortuary and Cremation Center.
