Enviro education council
The Monroe County Environmental Education Advisory Council (MCEEAC) invites all to its monthly meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Key West botanical gardens, 5210 College Road.
MCEEAC is a Florida nonprofit active in the Florida Keys since 1988, teaching how to teach environmental education.
Besides the monthly meetings, it hosts an annual workshop for Monroe County teachers, county Envirothon competition for middle school students, and gives out a Teacher of the Year award for a local environmental educator. For more information, visit www.keysee.org or email jean@dolphins.org.
MARATHON
Park wins $25K grant
Curry Hammock State Park, Mile Marker 56.2, ranked third in this summer's Coca-Cola America is Your Park Campaign, and will be awarded a $25,000 check at noon Saturday in the park's day use area, during the 14th Annual Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival.
With more than 8 million votes, Curry Hammock was recognized as one of America's Favorite Parks.
The park plans to use the funds to buy new paddleboards, paddles, life jackets, kayaks and additional equipment.
