Teen may be tried as adult
Age, more mulled in SWAT car thefts

Officials are weighing whether to prosecute as an adult a Big Pine Key teenager who is accused of stealing an automatic assault rifle, two handguns and SWAT gear from a Sheriff's Office patrol car.

"We are very carefully making that determination," said Assistant State Attorney Kader Scull, adding that he could only speak generally, as the defendant is 17 years...

It is very tricky; what was

It is very tricky; what was this teenager's intent? What is going on in his head?, What is his mental state? Would this be another massacre like in Denver's Columbine High 10 years ago? The Officials are asking themselves the same questions. Have a psychologist/psychiatric put him under hypnosis to reveal the truth of what's the underlying reason to take the weapons.

He did it.....He knew it.

This kid...is a bad apple. A "good" kid....would never even think about doing something like that. In addition...he was "adult" enough to have the weapons "fenced" already! And....what was he admittedly going to do....with the money that he made from his ILLEGAL sales? Buy dope. That'a a "big boy" activity as well. YOU NEED TO MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF HIM. Otherwise.....it will happen all the time. NO RESPECT for AUTHORITY is what it's called. (And then what? You'll have to replace most of the Sheriffs......with ones who know how to lock the cruiser doors. Wow.

Try the County manager as an Adult

We should try Gastasi as an Adult but wait a minute; didn't he cry to the Commissioners? He also wanted to try SUFA as Adults but he hasn't a leg to stand on. Why on earth do we keep this loser? Now we have no animal service on Big Pine and a so, so service in Marathon; political favors? George Neugent backed him all the way, kinda like those temporary Ref's. Time for change, time to vote in competent commissioners and make a change to improve the Keys.

Another case of poor policy!

If The current administration had better policies this would not have happened. The guns would have been locked & inaccessible. But hey don't worry because I heard Ramsay say crime is down, so just never anyone mind the incompetence of the sheriff's office because crime is down! Just another reason why the current administration is a joke. My friend's home got broken into and they told him it was a civil case. I guess because crime is down if they don't take the report and look for the culprit. I have to wonder just what my tax dollars are paying for? Oh never mind I figured it out... the fleet of take home cars for the sheriffs dept administration & deputy workers. Just think having that patrol car in the neighborhood will be a deterrent & reduce crime in your neighborhood. ... oops except in this case and the next one too...

Wrong focus

This is like blaming rape victims for being too pretty. No, these guns should never have been left unattended, but that is not the fault. The fault lies with the criminals who committed the act. Period.

If the stuff was laying out

If the stuff was laying out on the ground next to the sidewalk, no one can be excused for taking it.
