State OKs windstorm rate hike

It's official -- but not a surprise -- that Florida Keys property owners will see an increase in their windstorm insurance premiums next year.

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation on Monday approved higher rates for Citizens Property Insurance Corp. that, for Monroe County property owners, amounts to a 10 percent increase in windstorm premiums, said Office of Insura...

Citizens rate increase on wind insurance

Monopolies are never good for the individual. Who outside of the Florida Keys ever heard that there was only one company we could get windstorm insurance from, thought that was illegal. The situation is further compounded by a Governor and Legislature who have lost sight of whom they represent. It is we the people who elected them, and it is we the people who can vote them out of office. They don't give a hoot, let's give them the boot !

New GOP Tax

It was the GOP that raised your fees.

That's what you get when you have a Republican majority in

Tallahassee and a pro insurance company governor. They don't care about the working people with mortgages or retired people on fixed incomes. What ever Citizen wants in Florida they get. So the Florida politicians have put on the ballot a few " homestead exemption goodies" for full time residents on the ballot. Adm #11 - for low income seniors who maintain long-term residency,Adm #9 for surviving spouses of military vets and first responders, Adm #2 veterans that are disabled and Adm#4 a change in how the homestead exemption is applied if your assessed value of your property increases. With one hand Florida's politicians give you a break with the proposed changes and with the other hand they take it away with an 10% yearly increase in your Citizen insurance rates. Sounds to me the Republican plan is to force the working people of this state and the retired people to sell their houses so that their rich friends can buy it all up for a bargain! The politicians in this state are NOT working for the citizens, they are working for the insurance companies and the developers!

I guess

Saunders and Heather and the rest of the FIRM idiots didn't cry enough....

This comment....is INANE.

We in the Keys would be SCREWED...if it weren't for all of the efforts of the tireless people at FIRM ...ESPECIALLY HEATHER CARUTHERS and ANNALISE MANNIX. Your comment is stupid. After having to deal with Citizens directly over the past full year....because they took away all of our "credits" after one of their totally BOGUS "inspections".......I can tell you that we are in BIG Trouble here in the Keys.....if Citizen's continues to be the sole wind storm choice. God help us...if we experience another hurricane soon. Then the focus will shift to....Citizen's has no money to pay your claim. I could easily see that happening. Seriously...if you don't know what you're talking about.....and you don't.....DON'T talk.
