Workshop for nonprofits

Nonprofits' boards and leaders are invited to "Tips, Trends and Takeaways," a training symposium from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at DoubleTree Grand Key Resort, 3990 S. Roosevelt Blvd.

It's hosted by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys' Leadership Success Academy (LSA), and will cover leadership development, marketing and fundraising, new resources in social media, and more, for $25, which includes lunch. LSA, a nonprofit-board training program, since 2008 has helped more than 260 board members from 83 nonprofit organizations in the Florida Keys. Make reservations at cffk@cffk.org.

MARATHON

Garden club meets

Marathon Garden Club will kick off its new season at 1 p.m. Oct. 19.

Author Robin Robinson will be the guest speaker, and will talk about concepts featured in her latest book, "Roots, Rocks & Rain -- Native Trees of the Florida Keys." The theme is that native plants are better for the environment. The event is free and open to the public.
