20 YEARS AGO

The Key West City Commission approved, in principle, a lease of the Key West Golf Course to a group of Miami businessmen.

The Key West City Commission ordered the city manager to prepare a plan for improvements to Smathers Beach by adding restrooms, shade trees, a concession stand and a 3-foot wall to keep sand on the beach.

The 44-foot ketch Don Pancho was launched for a second time on Conch Key. It was first launched in 1958, then destroyed by Hurricane Donna in 1960.
