Son admits to stealing from two relatives

The son of a former Monroe County IT director was arrested Saturday after admitting to police that he broke into two relatives' homes and stole about $13,500 worth of jewelry, according to arrest affidavits.

Brandon Druckemiller is accused of breaking into two homes, both on Tuesday, taking several gold chains, bracelets and rings and pawning some of it before relatives called police Saturday to report that security cameras at one house show the 25-year-old using a screwdriver to pry open a back door to gain entry, reports say.

Most of the jewelry was returned by Druckemiller after he confessed to police, reports say. The relatives were told to go to a local pawn shop, where Brandon Druckemiller allegedly sold some of the jewelry to further identity more missing items, reports say.

Some of the other missing jewelry he retrieved from his pickup truck and gave to police, reports say.

Officers charged Brandon Druckemiller with unarmed felony burglary of an unoccupied structure; and felony larceny, grand theft between $5,000 and $10,000, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office jail records.

Brandon Duckemiller was released from Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island also on Saturday, but his bail amount of was not listed in online jail records.

None of the charges are reportedly related to the county's iPad and iPhone scandal that has embroiled him and his mother, Lisa Druckemiller, who is accused of stealing and then selling 52 county-owned iPads and iPhones.

Brandon Druckemiller has not been charged in that scandal, but Monroe County State Attorney's Office investigator Chris Weber stated in a recent report that both of Druckemiller's two sons sold the stolen equipment, despite knowing it "was not obtained through legitimate channels." That investigation is causing problems for Brandon Druckemiller, who works as a facilities maintenance plumber for the city of Key West.

City officials are recommending he be fired because of his apparent role in the case, according to city personnel documents.

Brandon Druckemiller sold "two pieces of equipment" with the "foreknowledge the equipment was not obtained through legitimate channels, and he did not purchase the equipment online as he claimed," Weber wrote.

Neither Brandon nor his brother have been charged in the county case.

City officials placed Brandon Druckemiller on suspension Sept. 19 and are recommending termination, citing the city's code of conduct. A disciplinary documentation form states the city will not allow "unlawful or improper conduct on or off the job which tends to affect the employee's reputation on the job."

Disciplinary documents also indicate that "Brandon has a disciplinary history, including a five-day suspension in December 2011 for 'threatening, intimidating a supervisor.'"

Lisa Druckemiller told The Citizen last week that her two sons did not know the missing electronics were county-owned.

Lisa Druckemiller's attorney, Robert Cintron, spoke to Lisa Druckemiller Saturday regarding Brandon's arrest, but was cautious in his statement to The Citizen on Sunday by reiterating that he is not Brandon's attorney.

"There is no nexus between what he has alleged to have done here and what Lisa is alleged to have done," Cintron said. "It is an unfortunate coincidence that he allegedly engaged in this behavior at the same time that there are these allegations against his mother."

equal treatment

If this kid gets fired for dealing in stolen goods, why not the county manager, county commissioner and other employees that did the same???????

A word to the victims: BEWARE

I had valuable items stolen. I located them in a pawn shop (not the police. Don't count on them.) The detective told me that they were going to retrieve the items because they needed it as evidence. I asked how long until I could get my valuable family heirlooms back. He was vague and said to keep calling the property department. I did as he said and was told over and over that they still had it and that they needed it longer.

Finally after a year, and after getting the runaround, I went up the line to city leaders. They looked into it and said I should go 'buy it back' from the pawn shop. I phoned the pawn shop and went there. What they showed me was NOT what was stolen. The pawn shop owner just shrugged. He closed the business a month later.

The lesson is (1) The police are not your friends. They don't look for your property and then they lie about how it is handled and (2) The pawn shop owners are sloppy and careless and probably 'on the take' with the officers.

CONFUSED

Your story don't add up. And you have made some very nasty false statments. First you say that you found your property in a Pawn Shop, but the police have it and the when you go to get it, its not yours anyway. If you found your item in a Pawn Shop it would have been at least 60 days after someone pawned it, because by law it must be keep in it's current condition and not for sale till then. When the broker took that in and it sounds like jewelry he makes a detailed listing of what it is right down to a tenth of a gram of weight and complete description on a pawn slip and gets all of the pawners info and prints and turns that over to the police daily. If that Broker is sloppy or screws up on that form he can be fined $ 5,000.00 and or loose his bussiness. And by the way the only shop that has closed in the last couple years was because the owner died. If you did not make a good detailed description on your police report then the computer system will not catch it and it was not found by the Police. I see it every day on the "Hot Sheets" misc jewelry taken, and you think the police can recover that!! GET REAL Pawn Shops Don't deal in stolen property and we are NOT on the take with the Police! The Police and Pawn Brokers work very hard to keep stolen property out of Pawn Shops and State wide less than 1/10 of 1% of anything that is stolen ends up in a Pawn Shop. Only You can help yourself and the Police by knowing what you have...... If your house was ripped off and your rings and that old chain in the drawer where gone do you know the weight etc???? Stop by our shop "Liquid 8 Pawn" or any other shop any get that info(free service)and keep it in a safe place and pic's are real good too. The Police do a very good job but you have to give them ALL the right info so they can do the job right.

Pawn Shops

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago and the police said the same thing....go buy it back from the pawn shop. Wrong! I did a little research and found that police must seize the items and the pawn shops MUST hand over the items without profit because they are stolen. Otherwise, the pawn shop would then knowingly possess and sell the stolen items, including to the rightful owner, which is illegal. Knowingly selling a stolen item is felony, and the pawn shops are not exempt. Do NOT allow the police to tell you this. It is their duty to seize the items, and the pawn shops cannot legally argue it.

No Nexus my behind

“There is no nexus between what he has alleged to have done here and what Lisa is alleged to have done.” Cintron said.

Here's a nexus for ya, how about poor upbringing, never being taught right from wrong. Come on Robert remember hearing "Monkey see Monkey do" as a kid?

Perhaps it is time for Dennis Ward to revisit the Iphone case and make some more arrests.

He better move fast before

He better move fast before Vogel sweeps the whole thing under the rug.

POLITiCAL?

Is this political Lisa? Did your own family "set him up" ? You better open your eyes, you will be prosecuted and this darling innocent son of yours who steals from his family will be lost. You will not be able to get help for him. Get him into a rehab IMMEDIATELY. Then see he does not come back to KW. It is his only possible chance.

It's all good,

he will get rehab in jail...at OUR expense. I already have a relative who stole thousands (like over 20K) from parents. He knew and calculated what he was doing and slowly drained their credit cards and check acct. Lisa would have been next...they go after all extended family first, then the parents.

Perhaps the iPhones that cannot be found

have been pawned? Then would he be arrested by the county?

The Nut doesn't fall far from the tree

The Nut doesn't fall far from the tree but hey he is a Conch so let's give him another chance!

He's a plumber? Wonder if

He's a plumber? Wonder if he served in a certified apprenticeship program or graduated from a trade school? Down here you can be whatever you want to be just by clicking your heals together and proclaiming it to be so, and having the right connections is always a plus.

Why are you all down on this

Why are you all down on this amazing kid? Don't you care how he feels about himself?

You must be delusional. He's a 25 year old MAN. I think he's

shown what he is. He's old enough to know right from wrong. His Mother may have fuzzied the line but I'd not call him an 'amazing kid'.

Amazing?

I agree, stealing from your relatives is pretty amazing.

Then why did this amazing

Then why did this amazing kid get arrested AGAIN TODAY??????????
