Druckemiller son resigns city job after 2 arrests

A Key West city employee arrested twice in one week on charges of burglary and dealing in stolen property, and who was linked to the sale of iPhones stolen from the county, has resigned from his job.

Brandon Druckemiller resigned Wednesday, just days after his arrest on felony burglary charges. Druckemiller already was facing termination because of his alleged involvement in the sale of stolen county-owned iPhones prior to his arrest on the burglary charges, according to his city personnel file.

Druckemiller's mother, former county Technical Services Director Lisa Druckemiller, was indicted in July by a county grand jury for the alleged theft and sale of 52 iPhones and iPads purchased by the county. A State Attorney's Office investigator concluded that Brandon Druckemiller and his brother sold some of the county equipment knowing it "was not obtained through legitimate channels," but no charges were brought against either of the brothers.

Brandon Druckemiller, 25, was slated to go before City Manager Bob Vitas on Tuesday, as his supervisors were recommending his dismissal based on involvement with the iPhone scandal. However, the hearing was postponed until Thursday because of Druckemiller's two arrests Saturday and Monday. However, he elected to resign Wednesday, city spokeswoman Alyson Crean said.

He submitted a written resignation letter Wednesday stating that he "respectfully" resigns.

Key West police initially arrested Druckemiller on Saturday on charges of burglarizing two relatives' homes on Oct. 2. He allegedly stole about $13,500 in jewelry, including several gold chains, bracelets and a gold wedding band. Police said he pawned some of the items before relatives called police to report the crimes. Security cameras at one of the homes showed Druckemiller using a screwdriver to pry open a back door, police said.

Officers charged Druckemiller with unarmed felony burglary of an unoccupied structure; and felony larceny, grand theft between $5,000 and $10,000, according to police records.

After bonding out of jail, Druckemiller apparently pawned more of the stolen goods at a local pawn shop, according to Crean. He was arrested Monday on new charges of dealing in stolen property.

Police said Druckemiller returned most of the jewelry after he confessed that he took it. The relatives were told to go to a local pawn shop, where Druckemiller allegedly sold some of the jewelry, to identity more missing items, police said.

Druckemiller Arrest

1) Get this boy to a spectography exam of his brain; it can pinpoint the areas that are non-function/over-active that are causing his misbehavior. Call Dr. Daniel Amen in Atlanta, GA at 5901-C Peachtree Dunwoody NE, Suite 65, Atlanta, Georgia 30328 Phone: (888) 564-2700. 2) This person was in my class at FKCC. I predicted his felonious behavior to other instructors and was poo-poohed. He talked, dressed, and acted like a "gang" thug years ago. Next prediction, without intervention (other than jail) this young man will end up in state prison.

What really happens

So everyone knows: Everyone who is arrested either had a set bond and bonds out or goes to a first appearance within 24-48 hours with a judge, state attorney and defense attorney or public defender if nobody has been hired. Probable cause is determined and a bond set based on the nature of the offense, danger to the community and flight risk. In this case, it was a nonviolent crime for someone within a limited criminal history and community ties which reduced the risk of flight. Also, 2 count of grand theft 5-10k based on 2 thefts totaling 13,500 guess some details were omitted

Guess whoever charged him

Must be one of the reasons the schools score so low in math (when I went to school there was no 13,500 anywhere between 5000 and 10000) or maybe they are just related and didn't want to charge him with a more serious charge, MAYBE IT IS THE NEW MATH.

Bond reduction!?!

There was no bond reduction set so quickly. EVERY person arrested is entitled to a bond or release within 24 hours. It doesn't matter who you or your parents are. It depends on community ties and flight risk. There are no secret speedy bond reduction hearings. Just normal first appearances, open to the public. Come see them sometime.

Yes it does apparently.

Most charges have a set bail amount. A class e felony, the lowest felony, for theft for example, has a set bond of $5,000. That number of charges should have had a bond of 10k or 20k at least by statute. The ONLY WAY to reduce that is to file a motion to reduce bail and go before a judge. This crook didn't pay ANY bond whatsoever either time. There are no first appearances THAT fast. There is a plea at arraingement, but there is no bond hearing usually then. And lots of other people in jail on petty charges have big bonds or no bonds at all. If he did have a bond, who in hades is going to pay it? The point was, there was no bail required on either time he was arrested. Rather than nobodies in the peanut gallery, I would like to know from a real source how this works. I know how it works for the average person, so don't waste my time.

huh?

According to keysso, he was arrested at DePoo Hospital. What's that about?

Oh.....you're kidding?

You're kidding! This kid had a "City" job too? How coincidental. THIS....is THE PROBLEM with the entire Florida Keys! Know what I'm sayin' "BUBBA? What a nice family. Can't we give them 8 or 10 more chances?

Why quit ?

Or would a written reprimand in his file be too scathing ?

Just like

Any Town,Worldwide! Nepotism happens everywhere.

What is going on here?

Anybody else would have had $20k in bond for these charges. This guy rips off his own relatives, so who would bond him out? Guess what, this repeat thief is released now twice on NO BOND. How did he get bond waived? And how did he get it done so fast. Most people would sit for a week or more before getting a hearing to reduce a bond. The Citizen needs to explain this. It sure looks like the fix is in. What the frack is going on here?
