Erla Inez Hall

Nov. 29, 1922 - May 16, 2012

Erla Inez Hall, in Lancaster, N.Y., in her 89th year, died after a long illness.

Born Erla Holmes in Vankleek Hill, Canada, in the Ottawa Valley, she had a zest for living life to the fullest.

She was a track star at Lisgar Collegiate, an accomplished horseback rider, and a fierce competitor at bridge and on the tennis court. She met J. Gordon Hall and married in 1950. They moved to East Aurora, N.Y., in 1958, where they resided until they moved to Greenfield Manor in Lancaster. Erla was active in community theater and was a volunteer with the Head Start program in Buffalo's inner city neighborhoods.

Erla was an only child who lost her parents too early in life. But she was never alone, thanks to the love and affection of Laura and Sherwood Wilson and their children, Marjorie, Mary and Bill.

Erla was delighted with, and by, her four grandchildren. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband, a professor of aeronautical engineering at State University of New York at Buffalo. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Hall of Key West, Fla., and grandchildren Graham and Dillon Beckwith of Los Angeles; and her son Chris (Tonda MacCharles) Hall, and grandchildren Euan and Li of Ottawa, Canada, as well as numerous friends and relatives in the Ottawa region. A memorial service was held in Ottawa on June 18. Final interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, East Aurora, N.Y.
