District close to state on college boards
But test scores lag behind US averages

Monroe County students scored well on the 2012 college boards when compared with the Florida state averages released this fall, but they remain behind the nation's average scores for reading, math and writing tests.

This year, 386 Monroe County students took the SAT, one more than the group that took it last year, while 336 students took the ACT exam. Some students take both...

Principals who allow ineffective teachers to remain

employed are primarily responsible for poor results. Just like the movie "Won't Back Down", the teachers know who isn't cutting it in their schools. Too bad the principals don't provide help to improve the teaching performance or replace them with more effective staff.

School Board

Once again the Board acts as if they have nothing to do with the poor performance. To me, the most amazing fact is that on an average the graduates don't reach the level assumed necessary to do well in college. HOW SAD!

Some of it is "nurture"...

... but most of it is "nature."
