Driver class on Thursday
An AARP Driver Safety Class is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Roth Building, an extension of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, at 50 High Point Road, Mile Marker 88.7, bayside.
Many insurance companies offer discounts to class graduates ages 50 and older.
No tests or driving are required and membership in AARP is not necessary.
The cost is $14 for non-AARP members and $12 for AARP members.

KEY WEST
New Town intersection closed
The intersection at 14th Street and Duck Avenue will be closed through Nov. 26, the city has announced.
Drivers may access Poinciana Elementary School from Kennedy Drive.
To get to the George Mira Football field, use the the Flagler Avenue walkway or the Poinciana School parking lot on Kennedy Drive.
Access to the soccer field behind Poinciana Elementary will be from the Kennedy Drive parking lot.
The project is due for completion by December.
Most of 14th Street has been closed off in the ongoing work.
KEY LARGO
GOP to discuss amendments
The Upper Keys Republican Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the African Queen room at the Holiday Inn, Mile Marker 99.
The meeting will include an explanation and discussion of the 12 proposed amendments to the Florida Constitution. The amendments will be decided during the Nov. 6 general election, and attendees of the meeting are encouraged to bring questions about them.
Republican political candidates also will be invited to address the group at the meeting, which is open to the public.
