Gentile may appeal ruling
CPA license never expires, he says

School District administrator Ken Gentile used the Certified Public Accountant label in violation of Florida law but didn't know about the legal requirement, according to a report issued by attorney Dirk Smits, who represents the schools.

"The statute states a person 'may not knowingly' use the designation," Smits wrote in a six-page report to Superintendent Mark Porter on O...

Who was the headhunter and where was Human Resources?

Who was the headhunter and where was Human Resources? It seems HR should participate in the accountability for this. Did anyone ask for a copy of his license?

Ethics?

The school district had a highly qualified CPA, credentials intact, who blew the whistle on fraud and theft. An inept and unethical school board forced her to resign and supported an inept and unethical superintendent in hiring this charlatan at an inflated salary.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Except of course when you work for a public agency, especially the School Board which apparently has no clue. This clown should have been fired when this first came out, as would happen in the real world. Besides, what in blazes is this little school system doing paying him $122k when he isn't even a qualified CPA. 122k would be great for a CPA, so what the heck are the taxpayers paying for? Was being a CPA a qualification for that job? It certainly should have been and should be? Overpaid underqualfied idiots from one end of this county to the other.

Please

Please don't blame this on the new administration. This was a leftover from Jesus. I sure hope he, Mickey and Minnie are getting along well. I still don't know how he got the job in Orlando. But there loss (gain) is our gain (loss). Let's give Porter a chance until the end of June and then we will know if he needs to go or stay.

Careful

More chaos and conflict...and you can't even scapegoat the Union on this one. Careful Admin and board, some of the responsibility for credentials, qualifications and employees that you stand behind might get on you. If the guy has a license that never expires, as he contends, he should not have been subject to reprimand. If he doesn't, and you have paid him a big salary with my tax dollars based on this credential, I am thinking you should have known this. Either way, their really isn't somewhere else to lay the blame here for your management. Mr. Porter, you are excused. This is a hangover mess from long befor you got here

Truth, Justice, and then there's the Key West way...

The school district gives out a $2,000 yearly supplement to employees who have a professional license, beyond what is required for their job. That includes any employee who has an ACTIVE CPA license. I am curious if Ken Gentile received this supplement, in addition to his salary, because he stated he had an active Florida and NYS CPA license. Anyone who is a CPA knows that each state has different licensure requirements to obtain that state's CPA license. Just because you pass an exam does not automatically make you a CPA. By not maintaining his license in New York State means he did not maintain the required 80 hours continuing education requirements. He never had a Florida CPA license, but thought it was OK to say so on his resume. Am I missing something here, or is he?

In the private sector these "ethics" violators

would be fired. We are teaching our children by example that the worst thing that can happen is a reprimand or letter in a personel file. Our Officials have become corrupt , morally .
