Athena nominations sought
Nominations are sought for this year's Athena award, bestowed by the Key West Chamber of Commerce on a professional woman whose work adds to the community.
Past recipients include: Sandra Higgs, the late Merili McCoy, Wilhelmina Harvey and Connie Rice, Melissa Kendrick, Amy Culver-Aversa, Kim Works, Linda O'Brien and the chamber's own Virginia Panico.
The recipient receives a bronze statue depicting Athena, the wise daughter of Zeus, designed by sculptor Linda Ackley of Tampa.

Nominate your unsung heroes
The Community Foundation of the Florida Keys (CFFK) seeks nominations through Dec. 1 for its Unsung Heroes annual luncheon, which recognizes volunteers who help community nonprofits.
All registered Monroe County 501(c)3) nonprofits may nominate a Volunteer of the Year to be honored at the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 1 event at the Casa Marina Resort, 1500 Reynolds St.
"The community is greatly enhanced because of the tireless efforts of our volunteers," said CFFK President Dianna Sutton.
Nominees and one nonprofit representative get free tickets. Otherwise it's $60 per person, and space is limited. Nomination forms available at www.cffk.org.

Annual Cook-Off on Nov. 8
The Key Largo Chamber of Commerce's 31st annual Key Largo Cook-Off is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Holiday Inn, Mile Marker 100.
Amateur, professional and junior chefs compete in five categories including soups and chowders, appetizers, sides and salads, entrees and desserts. Awards will be announced afterward.
