MARY H. SAVADINA RATCLIFF

Mary departed this world on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Ratcliff; her parents, Anna and Frank Savadina; her brothers, Jerome, Julius, Bill and Frank; and her sisters, Anna and Judy.

Mary was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Flatonia, Texas. She spent her childhood on the family farm with her mom and siblings after losing her father when she was very young.

In her mid-20s she was working in Corpus Christi, Texas, when she met a dashing sailor who was the love of her life. She married Thomas Ratcliff in December 1947. One of the many places her husband was stationed was Key West, Fla., in the early 1950s.

They both fell in love with the island and moved back there to live permanently upon his retirement from the Navy.

They were married for 50 years, until Tommy's death in 1998. Together they raised a family of five children: Flo (Douglas), Frank (Maria), David (Janet), Kenneth (Nancy), and Carol (Vance). She was a loving grandmother to Daniel, Richard, Sophia, Frankie, Krisitina and Jack, and great-grandmother to Damian.

In the final years of her life, she was cared for and accompanied by Mayra Blandford, who lavished care and love on her. We are forever grateful to this wonderful woman. We would like to thank the staff of Hospice for their compassion and guidance in the final days of her life.

No services are planned at this time. Being blessed with wonderful parents was our greatest gift in life. Mom devoted her life to her husband, children, grand- and great-grandchildren. We felt her love always. Nothing can be more wonderful than that. May God bless her soul. We will miss her always.

Castillo & Thurston are in charge of arrangements.
