Bob Michaels (Robert Roerig)

With the passing of Bob Michaels (Robert Roerig), Key West lost an amazing friend.

Bob Michaels died late in the evening on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, and for those of us who had the pleasure of knowing this larger than life man, our lives will forever be changed.

Bob frequented the Keys Numerous times each year since his college days. He was an avid diver and also an instructor and owner of a dive quarry in Pennsylvania. Key West is also where he proposed to his wife at Mallory Square over sunset in July 1990 and where they spent their 22nd anniversary on Oct. 20.

With his beloved wife Cindy, Bob collected Garden Scale (LGB) Trains. What initially started as a small backyard setup for personal enjoyment, turned into an annual Christmas display where tens of thousands of onlookers would stop to see their Carrollton, Texas house in full seasonal splendor. The display is used to raise money and food for the local food bank, where more than 100,000 pounds of food have been donated thus far.

Bob is survived by his wife Cindy, parents Lillian and Frank Roerig, sister Marilyn Henderson, best friend Chad Cummins, and many friends in the Keys.

In Lieu of flowers, please make any donation in Bob's name to the following organizations:
