Last Stand pleads case
Watersports company wants bay bottom lease

A former state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) employee and a ecologist with the Audubon Society will testify today in Tallahassee in a hearing to determine if Fury Water Adventures can keep an inflatable climbing wall and personal watercraft barge above state-owned bay bottom off Key West Harbor for at least five years.

Fury's takeover of our inshore waters a blight

Scott's comments at the channel widening meeting showed his true colors . "VOLUME" is what he is about and needs to put the other water sports companies out of business. Which his goal. This "Volume" equates to large amounts of people and sports vessels on the water. A continuing circle of jet skis and towed "toys" cover frankfort bank . Visual pollution and noise at a discount price.

Another nail in our coffin

If this passes, there will be no way to prevent Sebago and Sunset Watersports from doing the same thing. Then Fury will need another one and smaller operators will want them and so on... In a couple years the island will be ringed by platforms, water slides, and climbing walls. Do not set a precident! The City needs to come out against this before we Completely destroy our already crowded off shore waters.

Mooring Ball Comparision

If one were to rent a mooring ball in the City of Key West mooring field, they would pay $313.42 (tax included) per month. That is $ 3,761.04 a year! Why would Fury only pay less than half that amount for a commercial venture in an arguably better location?

Basic Math

Has anyone ever bothered to do the basic math on this? Fury wants to lease an area of 11,436 feet. That is only 107x107 ft. In that space they want to place the following: - a floating vessel platform for 10 jet skis - a floating vessel platform for 10 kayaks - a permanently moored vessel - unspecified "water toys" Exactly how do they plan on fitting all of that into such a small space? In addition, anything that is anchored isn't going to float directly above the anchor point. It is all going to move around a bit with the wind and tides. In short, the exact square surface footage of the items Fury wants to moor may add up to 11,436 if they were laid directly side to side, but the area impacted will be significantly greater. Why has no one ever brought up this obvious issue?
