20 YEARS AGO

Saint Leo College Key West Resident Center graduated 31 in a ceremony at Key West High School Auditorium.

Architect Jose Gonzalez was elected president of the Greater Key West Chamber of Commerce for 1993.

The commercial property on the corner of Telegraph Lane and Greene Street sold for a reported $262,000.

50 YEARS AGO

Southeast Airlines announced it had begun service between Miami and Key West with two flights daily. The airline started its flights earlier than planned because of the heavy traffic caused by the missile crisis.

Ira and Ann Stevens announced the opening of their new Cities Service gas station on U.S. 1 on Big Coppitt Key.

The Key West City Commission with a 3-to-2 vote hired Archie Lowe as the new city manager. He was an engineer without prior city manager experience.
