Romney is our choice to lead the nation

From time to time in our nation's history, situations have arisen that require a choice be made by the voters to resolve political impasse. Examples of these occasions include issues such as continental expansion, suffrage, civil rights, continuing war and setting an economic direction. During such times voters have been called upon to make a choice between two equally passionate sides where th...

Deplorable editorial supporting Romney for president

I am ashamed of the Key West Citizen. In one of the most diverse, freedom loving communities in the United States it is deplorable you would take an editorial stance supporting a candidate who is so narrow minded, who will work to repeal many of the freedoms we have worked so hard for here in the U.S. in recent years. At the very least, you should have refrained from expressing any opinion at all. I know many, if not most, of those in your news room are holding their noses today as they come to work at your facility.

Factual assertions not true

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts. Your editorial bases its opinion on the following assertions which are simply untrue. You state as seeming “facts” that Obama has: “Expanded government.” Fact: In the past two years, the U.S. Has added 4 million private sector jobs, while losing 4 million public sector jobs. “Vilified success.” Fact: Obama stated “we succeed because of our individual initiative” in the speech where he pointed out that, obviously, government-built roads and the government-invented internet help everybody out. An “unwillingness to compromise.” Fact: Obama's compromises on healthcare, the environment, Guantanamo, and immigration, just to name a few, are the basis of the Left's critique of him. Meanwhile, the Republican senators voted to block everything that Obama put forward, even Republican initiatives. Engaged in “class warfare.” Facts: Obama has given the rich the largest first-term gain in the stock market of any president since FDR, put trillions in corporate coffers, and asks only that the top 1% pay tax rates similar to that of the average voter. Romney's promises on the economy are as baseless as those of the Tea Party landslide in 2010: they promised “Jobs, jobs jobs!” but came in and focused, “laser-like,” on abortion and gay marriage. Romney's economic plan is simply Bush-Cheney on steroids: even lower taxes on the top 1%, and even less regulation of the same financial markets that crashed and burned in 2009. Please, vote for Romney if you want lower taxes on the very rich, increased military spending and a more likely war with Iran, and fewer rights for women and gays. But not for the reasons in your editorial.

Don't lump me in with you...

I'm a Citizen employee and had a really crap day having to listen to everyone around me bitch about the paper I love working for. I don't know if this crap editorial was written by the owner or the publisher, but I'm pissed this was published without so much as a heads up to your employees... Thanks a lot. You spoke for yourself, signed "The Citizen" instead of your name and left your little people to deal with the fallout. Typical Republican 1-percenter...

Romney Endorsement

The Citizen has always been a bit of a joke albeit a harmless joke. But, with this endorsement of Romney the joke is no longer funny. I realize that this is only opinion and had I read a true rational reason for your support of Romney I would not be so disappointed. But, blaming Monroe Co. economic woes on President Obama is just about the most ridiculous thing I've read here, and that's saying alot! With so many other ways to get real news, local or otherwise, and with better classifieds on Craig's List, I am at a loss for a reason to continue to read this rag.

Romney?

Maybe he can help you "downsize or even close" your out of touch operation when the locals who believe in One Human Family pull their ads and cancel their subscriptions.

Who are you?

Wow, Citizen! "Disappointed" doesn't even begin to describe how I feel toward you after reading this editorial. It's a shame the exact names of persons associated with this editorial are not printed, as I am certain many of your hard working employees do not share this misguided, ignorant opinion. I am truly embarrassed that the daily paper for our One Human Family chose the side whose policies and track record stand against who we are as Key Westers.

Factual errors

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts. Your editorial bases its opinion on the following assertions which are simply untrue. Citizen's Editorial Board Has Been Bought and Paid For

It is obvious that the Editorial Board has been bought by the rightwing bankers and gotminers that now populate it. To endorse a presidential candidate by mouthing a pack of lies that have been proven false over and over again is outrageous, especially when that candidate stands against everything that makes Key West and the Florida Keys so wonderful. Your endorsement of Romney, a 1 Percenter who is against gay rights, women's rights, and government safety nets for the elderly, sick, and poor is contradictory to our motto of "One Human Family" and for the local paper to take this position is shameful. And it is equally shameful for the editors to attempt to perpetuate the lies (1) that any president can control fuel prices when these are controlled by the global marketplace. (Additionally, the fuel prices haven't seemed to hurt our tourism, which recent Citizen articles have proclaimed has been rising to higher levels than ever); (2) that President Obama is responsible for the costs of 2 wars put on a credit card by George W. Bush and the burgeoning military costs associated therewith; and (3) that trickle down economics - giving the rich more money through tax cuts - benefits the rest of us when it has resulted time after time in the rich just get richer and the destruction of the middle class, which is the prime driving force in a strong economy. As for your statements about how the Republicans, if elected, will "work across the aisle," well, we've all seen how these rabid rightwingers have espoused a 100% no-compromise policy during President Obama's first term. Do you really expect us to be stupid enough to believe that these same elected officials will change their tune overnight if their party wins the White House? Do you really expect us to be stupid enough to believe that returning to the Bush policies of tax reductions for the rich and deregulation of industries that brought us to the brink of financial collapse will be a good thing for the average American? But of course, the billionairs who are funding the false political advertisements to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars will expect some payback for buying their candidate into office. Unfortunately, it will be the average American who will foot the bill for that payback, not the rich with their health insurance and off-shore millions.
