Pedestrian hit, motorcyclist hurt

A pedestrian was hit by a car and a motorcycle was hit by a pickup truck in two separate traffic accidenst Friday evening in the Florida Keys.

A motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Burton Drive in Tavenier just after 7 p.m., according to reports from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, which stated that the motorcyclist was taken to Mariner's Hospital.

Also on Friday, a vehicle hit a pedestrian at Mile Marker 89.9 near Coral Shores High School, according to the sheriff's office. The victim was airlifted by Trauma Star helicopter to Ryder Trauma Center with an apparent head trauma. The accident forced the closure of U.S. 1 for nearly two hours, but traffic could be diverted to the old highway, reports state.
