Felony child abuse alleged

A 25-year-old father was charged with felony child abuse Sunday for allegedly being asleep and unresponsive on a seawall with his 13-month-old son on his chest.

A witness said she couldn't wake Pierre Padam Davis, who she said asleep on the canal wall at 1318 Sunset Drive in New Town. She reportedly grabbed the infant and gave him to arriving officers. It took police a while to wake Davis, and officers noted that the baby "could have easily rolled into the water and drowned." Davis was booked into Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island and released after posting $5,000 bail the same day.

Audubon speaker

The public is invited to a free presentation at the Florida Keys Audubon meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Key West Garden Club, at the West Martello Museum, on Atlantic Boulevard.

Amanda Barber of the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center in Tavernier will discuss the various kinds of birds the center has taken in over the past several years, and the main causes of injuries to wildlife. Barber is the center's hospital manager and wildlife rehabilitator. Enter at the West Martello's side gate.
