Weekend warrior nets 36 charges
FWC officers catch fisherman with untagged lobster traps in Key Largo waters

More charges could be pending against a Miami-based commercial lobster fisherman arrested last week after undercover wildlife officers dove on many traps without tags off Key Largo, officials said Tuesday.

Someone from Miami committing theft and fisheries violations. Shocking.

Not that it has any bearing on the violation

It is easy to see why it occoured; trap certificates cost $100 a piece. making it difficult for any trapper to expand thier business. The 3 years of Chinese inflated prices have artifically driven prices up and now the bubble burst when the Chinese this year suddenly stopped buying. Many boats invested in large live wells and took on additional debt. This year , the Chinese didn't buy, the crawfish didn't come and prices fell to half. Our Goverment , through privatizing our fisheries are creating lopsided monoplies, putting your small operators out of business. Small operators provide quality seafood and keep prices in check. Once the big operators control the majority of the quota , they will manipulate the prices and only the rich will eat seafood.
