Fund for couple who lost all
Neighbors have set up a benefit fund for Jack and Lisa Sauders, the Ramrod Key couple who lost their house at 27383 Anguilla Lane in a fire early Monday.
The Fire Benefit Fund is through Centennial Bank on Big Pine Key. Make donations in person at 200 Wilder Road, or call 305-676-3071 and use a credit card. Donors also may give via the Red Cross at 305-296-4033.
A neighbor who heard the smoke alarm in the Sauders' RV awoke them. They believe the fire started there before jumping to their stilt home. The Sauders lost everything -- their RV, home, and two trailers, one housing two motorcycles.
Learn to quit smoking
A free, two-hour "Tools to Quit" Smoking Cessation program will be offered at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at Womankind, 1511 Truman Ave.
Participants will receive, for free, a two weeks' supply of nicotine replacement patches as well as counseling from a certified tobacco treatment specialist.
The workshop is hosted by Keys Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and Womankind, which offers affordable health care.
To register, call 305-743-7111, ext. 205. "If you're ready to quit, we're ready to help," organizers say.
