City still must approve transferring Turtle Kraals, Half Shell leases

Millionaire entrepreneur Pat Croce is one step closer to acquiring two restaurants at the historic Key West Bight, after a successful appearance before a city advisory board Wednesday.

In a 5-2 vote, the Key West Bight Management District Board approved Croce's request to the city to transfer the leases of Turtle Kraals and the Half Shell Raw Bar, both at 231 Margaret St....

Well, anything will be an improvement.

TK used to be my favorite restaurant, 18 years ago when Paul Tripp owned it. While I like Mr. Smith, he shouldn't have messed with success. Trying to squeeze extra $$ out of the restaurant meant lowering the quality and the 'flavor' of the menu. And I started to get sick after I'd eat at TK or Half Shell. Since I'm horribly allergic to mold and mildew, I suspect it's in the ice machines. For that reason, I've not been to either in about a year and a half, maybe two.

Maybe Mr. Croce will do something about that, but if he does what he has done elsewhere, things will continue a downward slide. Contrary to popular belief, the world doesn't have to have 18 TV's in a restaurant, in order to eat.

I hate to see good places go downhill.

He will slowly ruin them

He will slowly ruin them like he is doing to the Parrot. And who opens a BBQ place in the south that doesn't know how to do good BBQ? (Maybe he wants the Kraals recipes, which suck as well) Time to stop his purchasing. Between him and Fogarty's cooperation are there any independent restaurants anymore, or just horrid corporations that destroy the beautiful character of some of these establishments.

crap food

Just more of the same sysco crap they will be serving open a box throw it in the fryer and serve. As for the bbq joint charlie crap's why would any "smokehouse" have a bottle of liquid smoke on the premises? just sayin

Yes there are. One of them

Yes there are. One of them is called BO's Fishwagon. I haven't lived in Key West in some years, but I'll bet the fish sandwiches are just as good, the beer's just as cold, and Buddy's just as much a pain in the a**, probably more so, as ever.

who can afford to eat at Bo's anymore

the portions are small and pricey. 5 brothers gets most of my lunch traffic, good food at a reasonable price.

Go to Blackfin Bistro.

Go to Blackfin Bistro. Locally owned by great guys who are there most nights. Great burgers, pasta, and fresh fish specials. Leave the tourist traps to our low end visitors who can't tell grouper from frozen basa. I guess they don't care as long as they can buy a tee shirt and experience the "real" Key West...

sorry

Pat Croce's Key West.. whoops
