Roadwork subcontractor arrested
Allegedly offered $30K bribe, threats after U.S. 1 chase that reached 110 mph

The president of a company working on the North Roosevelt Boulevard project tried to buy off a deputy early Friday for $30,000 after a high-speed chase up U.S. 1 that reached 110 mph, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

State Site Development Inc. President John Quincy Chaney, 64, of Kendall, was charged with DUI -- reportedly his third -- fleeing and eluding...

This schmuck won't be in jail long. These judges will let him bail out for a few hundred bucks. Maybe they will take away his drivers license...And BTW does anyone have any idea what is going on with the project. In this weather they should be BUSTING THEIR ASSES if they had a PLAN. Is everyone on vacation? Nobody seems to be doing CONSTRUCTION. Why did they even start this project?

I love when people in the Keys judge people from Miami when they have no knowledge whatsoever about Miami and it's people! This guy your talking about is no hood-rat, he's an ex smuggler with balls of steel! He had the guts to do it back in the 80's when there were real men in society, not the gutless snitches today! And people like you should people like him that his money along with all other dope money back then made the Keys what it is today! Your probobly from up north and don't know much about south Florida, but it was all built on Cocaine & pot money! I can drive up & down U.S.1 from Key Largo to Key west and point out so many established business today that were built on drug money! When you talk, know the facts! You should watch a very well known movie that some friends of mine produced named "cocaine cowboys" watch it, it will show you alot about where you live! Hood-rats are low-class street level punks that are in every city in America today, but an ex smuggler from back then is someone totally different! Don't judge him, you would be judging almost every cop in South Florida, because everyone of them had something to do with smuggling!

No trash buddy! Attended prestigious schools, and today im a well known real estate investor up north, grew up with the best of the best! It's cry-babies like you with no guts that worry about a guy having a good time and speeding down the road! lol Wow! It's people like you that caused the real money in the Keys to go elsewhere such as Costa Rica! Where the normal person doesn't get harrased by police 24/7, I personally wouldn't invest a dime in that place, and many well known local investors also pulled out of there due to people just like you! Well hey you can keep it! lol It's all fished out, too many cops, too commercialized, too much drama! Perfect lil place for people like you! :)

I guess he forgot it's different times! Keys have changed, back then I know of many times people bieng pulled over by MCSO and the driver hands them the Keys to the trunk and tells the officer "take some, but leave some for us" there would be millions in cash or plenty of dope! Oh yeah baby do I miss those! Those were the real days in the Keys! Who cares? I sure enjoyed them back then! :)

You get what you pay for. This road construction is suppose to last till August 2014? The rate it is going, would be the next 6 years. There are times when I don't see a soul working, it is sunny and clear or they maybe taking a long break. Look, it's not the hot summer 90° sweltering, sticky-humid anymore, you have cool breeze and warm sun and it is in the mid/upper 70's to low 80's. Construction should be 7am to 9 or 10pm and 6 days a week (I believe in a one day rest: Sunday).

hmmm doesnt sound like good reporting to me. the fact checker should do a little more research before printing this "story". state site development isnt working on the current contract on n. roosevelt and i was told by an employee that they are in fact ahead of schedule. as for prescription drugs i thought doctors prescribed drugs and you get them in prescription bottles. it might just be me but i hear things are different in the keys, just sayin. speeding? yeah i dont blame him for wanting to get the hell out of there. blackmail a deputy? exactly how and why would he try this? what did mr chaney have on the deputy? was it bribery or blackmail? but what do i know. i dont work for a newspaper, im just a tourist.

He blew a .149 and a .146...he was doing over 100mph in a key deer refuge. Prescription pills (without a prescription!?) Bribery? I don't care who he is, who he works for, what company he owns or what project he may or may not be working on, I'm just glad he's off our road!

sentences is really laughable. No caps. Poor punctuation. Poor sentence structure. Seriously?

Here are a few things you missed: This thug's company is a sub-contractor, not the contractor of record. And do the 3 guys standing around, doing nothing on the entire stretch, actually have a clue about a schedule whatsoever? If the guy didn't have a prescription, they're illegal. What part of that do you not understand?

Perhaps you're a partner of the thug, or you'd not be making the statements you're making. You sound as if you're on illegal drugs as well.

No not all! I never responded to any trap robbers nor do I care! And about crime, no I don't like crime dude, I have alot of property and it will bring my property values down, so I don't support crime! But back then it was normal to be a smuggler and I know many down in the keys from all walks of life that were involved in the drug trade, lawyers, mostly all police and local gov employees! So now this guy has a good business and makes tons of cash and was having a good time in the Keys? haha So he thought, did't he know the Keys are garbage now and you can't do that anymore? what a whiner the only people who care about sentence structure and caps are 6th grade english teachers only because they have to. i would be worried about a newspaper printing half true stories or flat out lies. not someones grammer. but like i said it is the keys and people think differently there so maybe the truth doesnt really matter. dont know dont care. everything about the construction is public record so maybe someone should CLEARLY get their head out of their butt and do a little original research. then you might realize the "thugs" company isnt working anywhere near key west.
