State attorney-elect hires ex-boss

Vogel picks one-time election opponent Kohl as office's executive director

State Attorney-elect Catherine Vogel has selected her election opponent and ex-boss Mark Kohl to be the office's executive director once she takes her post on Jan. 8.

Kohl will replace Nancy Criswell, who is retiring on Dec. 31 after 32 years on the job.

She promised more deals for defendents when she ran against Ward. I wonder which elected official's conviction she try to get overturned first. Or which investigation into corruption she'll stop. Bottom line is if you're stealing from the public, you're safe for the next 4 years.

These three will be rolled on a regular basis. They will prey on those unable to adequately defend themselves. Those with the Capitol shall receive no punishment. They will be monitored. They will be an expensive mistake for the taxpayers. Their lack of judgement and legal expertise is a danger and threat to the public. Past records of malfeasance and prosecutorial misconduct will validate the serious error that has been made by the voters.

Scam

I'm no expert on campaign procedures and laws, but to run on opposite tickets with the intent of the winner hiring the loser just doesn't sound right. And even if it's legal, it's definitely not moral. There has been evidence of this since day one, right up through the campaign that had no debate and no Kohl signs on the highway. I really hope that if they aren't investigated for this scam, the voters at least see what they pulled on this county.

I thought she said she wasn't going to do that? We all know that Kohl needed a job, as they both were failures in private practice and they both need health insurance that covers pre-existing conditions. I wonder if Kohl will show up for work, seeing as he only showed up in Key West 38 days in all of 2008 (public record) when he was state attorney? It is worth noting the the Exec Director job does not need an attorney and does not prosecute or do other legal work. Remind me, what do we call it when a politican hires friends and relatives for government jobs? At least she didn't fire anyone for this political favor.

Vogel could not have made a better choice and her selections will represent the most professional upgrade ever dreamed ever imagined by the voters. There will be no bullying, no buffoons and no leaking damaging suspicions to the press, especially when there is not a shred of evidence. Who knows, maybe from time to time, they will even try a real felony. Way to go Cathy!

which is posionous and normally causes lung damage; apparently this time it caused brain damage. If they are going to try a real felon , let's start with Gastesi, he is the tip of the felon iceberg.

Wow..The new state attorney is making good on her promise, when she denied making a deal with Kohl throughout the election. Looks like she is going to be a one-termer...some people never learn.

Overby and Helmerich are next (and wait till you see the salaries). BTW Demetrious was a terrible prosecutor who was notorious for giving sweetheart plea bargains because he was afraid afraid to go to trial. His only qualification is his campaign support for Vogel-Kohl. The inmates in the upper Keys are jumping for joy. The citizens better start locking their doors.
