Speedster not part of project

It turns out the Big Pine Key speedster arrested early Friday who claimed his company was involved in the $41 million North Roosevelt Boulevard project was blowing smoke, Florida Department of Transportation officials said Monday.

"The subcontractor doing the sewer work is J.S. and L Construction, which is owned by his wife and he is not on any of the corporate papers and has nothing to do with this project," said Dean Walters, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) spokesman for the boulevard project. "His company is not involved at all and he is not connected in any way regarding this project."

John Quincy Chaney, 64, of Kendall, was arrested when he offered a deputy $30,000 at 2:23 a.m. Friday after leading him on a high-speed chase of up to 110 mph north on U.S. 1 in his black, 2008 Hummer H2, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Chaney reportedly told an arresting deputy he was "in charge of the road construction in Key West and that he was the owner of a company doing the road work and that he [had] been at work for 72 hours."

"He made it appear to police like he was a big shot on this project, but when we really looked into it, he's not connected in any way to the project," Walters said. "It's really a non-issue concerning the project, but it took a little digging to figure it all out once we got past his arrest."

Chaney also allegedly threatened to have the arresting deputy "taken care of" and said he'd blackmail the officer by claiming he hit him with his service gun, reports said.

Chaney also talked about working for the late, infamous Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar, saying he had killed people and that he used to smuggle cocaine from Colombia into the United States, reports said.

He was charged with DUI -- reportedly his third -- fleeing and eluding, bribery of a public servant and possession of prescription drugs without a prescription.

All are felonies.

Chaney is president of State Site Development Inc., a different, separate construction company from the one his wife owns.

He was released from Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island on Friday after posting $135,000 bail.

scam

The scam here is the wife "owns" the company because it helps get DOT and other state contracts. She is a "minority" and minority owned company's get special consideration in Government contracts. The are LOTS of small contractors that pull this scam. To deny that he is involved in the project is interesting to say the least. I wonder if there is some sort of connection between him and the project managers....

I've personally seen the black hummer

on the construction site.

John Quincy Chaney bribed an

John Quincy Chaney bribed an officer after a high speed chase of $30,000?, threatening an officer?,and he claims that he use to work for a Colombian cocaine kingpin? come on now, if he worked for a cocaine kingpin, He would have been executed immediately, The drug cartel doesn't want anyone be blabbing who and where they are located, they don't want to take chances, since Chaney said he worked for them, then they're coming after his sorry arse for bragging. The bail should have been set higher than $135,000 and have his license suspended for 3 years since this is his third DUI and let him take a taxi to and from work. Just because he is made of money and can afford a bail of $135,000 a million dollar home and a Hummer H2 worth $75,305 doesn't mean he can bully his way around and get away with it.., he is being a big jerk! He should be put in prison for a while, forget that he is a contractor for a different company; he cried wolf one too many times.

Hey Walters, you are just

Hey Walters, you are just trying to pull one over on the taxpayers. He was checking on the project for HIS WIFE. Dont try to bulls--- us. You are getting paid for exactly what you are doing: telling lies to try and cover this us. I am sure that this guy and his wife check on each others contracts. As far as owning two different construction companies, this is how these guys bid on contracts so they can put in TWO BIDS and I am sure they have two companies in different names for TAX BREAKS.

He was caught trying to bribe a inspector in Miami Dade County

Check that out Walters.

Bull Sh*t

Don't let Mr. Walters' smoke screen fool you. The gentleman in question has quite a bit to do with the project. Mr. Walters' take on the story is 100% pure spin. Companies are frequently put in wives names to take advantage of regulations and laws that grant advantages to females, native Americans, minorities, etc. for work contracts issued by your big federal government. Also, given the gentleman's past felonies, the titling of the company in the spouses' name was another way of circumventing background checks. Tell Mr. Walters to go sell crazy somewhere else; we're all stocked up here.

Bovine excrement

I find it HIGHLY unlikely that this individual, who's wife owns the company dilly dallying on the road construction, was simply here for a casual visit. Paperwork often reflects legal considerations such as limiting liability. I'll bet you anything that if you asked any one of the individuals watching the guy with the shovel, they'll tell you a different story about who's in charge.

Now I get it...

If the company had been in his name, only HALF of it would have belonged to her.

But... since the company was in HER name, only half on the company belonged to HIM!!
