Carnival Cruise Lines this week announced details of its newest -- and largest -- passenger ship ever home-ported in South Florida, complete with a port of call scheduled for January in Key West.
At 15 decks tall, the Breeze this weekend begins six-day Caribbean cruises that start from Miami, dock one day in Key West and then take off for Grand Turk and then the Bahamas,...
Mammy Yokum should go back to Dogpatch.
Despite her fixation, not everything in the world has to do with the victimization of women.
I think Mammy Yokum needs a geography lesson.
While she's at it, perhaps she should get some "skoolin" on how sexist and politically incorrect "Li'l Abner" is. It was the ispiration for "Dukes of Hazzard" -- Daisy Dukes was plagiarized from the original "Daisy Mae" character, whose most famous line in that musical was, "My aim in life is to be a good wife."
This is outrageous-- for Commissioner Mark Rossi and City Port Director Jim Fitton to thumb their noses at the citizenry and the city commission is completely unacceptable. Both know clearly that public opinion is overwhelmingly against larger cruise ships and yet they persist in inviting them to our port.
We can't do anything about Rossi until his term is up (though he's clearly violating Ethics in Government rules). But we can sure as hell demand that Fitton be fired immediately for scheduling this monster cruise ship without advise and consent of the city commission. That's the reason we let former city manager Jim Scholl go. And if the new city manager isn't careful, he'll go the same route.
Our commissioners need to put this item on the next agenda and disapprove this monster ship visiting our port!
It looks like we're going to get bigger ships, whether we say "NO" to channel-widening, or not.
